another non-cancer topic for a Friday afternoon. On Dec 6 2009 I started a thread called the same as above.....was just going to bump it but decided to start a new one....you can read the old one just by putting it into search....I think it tells a lot about one another. I hope anyone new will join in or expand on things if you posted before. I am a Christmas collector .....this year I have been concentrating on little paper Japanese houses from the 1940`s....Anne you told me about Limoges....I would love to hear some details about your dishes..... anything? ??? anybody???/ actually i like to collect soooo many things but I'll let someone else start.....pepe???? are you a collector???? :) :) hugs to all mags |

Yes, as a matter of fact...
I collect tumors it seems. I've had a bunch of them but thankfully I've gotten rid of many of them. ;-)
I am somewhat of a guitar collector. I have 9 (I had 10 but traded 2 of them in for a nice Epiphone Les Paul) At one time I had a collection of different beer. Mostly imported ones. This was before the micro-brews took off. I had at one point around 100 different bottles of beer. yes, I know...99 bottles of beer on the wall, 99 bottles of beer...

Ice Tea Stirers
Being a good Southern Lady...lol...I collect blown glass ice tea stirers, not to be confused with spoons.
They are usually a clear glass 'stick' with either a blown glass ornament on the top end or a colored tiny spoon shape on the bottom. The glass stick is sometimes hollow and can be used for a straw.

I have been collecting angel figurines since I was pretty young...many moon ago.
I collect other things as well but angels are my weakness
My dad was career Army so no matter where we were stationed I would get an angel, so I them from several different state and counties. I have an 8 year old grandaughter who I buy an angel for every Christmas nd birthday...she has started expecting them and that makes me so happy as she loves them too.

Collecting
I seem to collect junk! Actually I have been collecting miniatures for many years. These were supposed to go into a dollhouse that I was supposed to build! I did actually build most of the first dollhouse, but became quite disillusioned with the whole process after my husband accidentally hit the dollhouse with our Van and knocked off the whole front porch!! I have purchased several dollhouses at yard sales with the intention of finishing them, but alas my procrastination gene seems to be in place as usual so maybe next year??
I also seem to collect "dead relatives" as I do genealogy as a hobby! Kind of a never ending process, but it can be interesting. I have visited many family grave sites in my travels. My poor family really hates it when I suggest a little detour to check out a cemetery! ( Haven't been arrested for trespassing yet, but probably will be someday!! ) It is also fun to check out those famous relatives who led respected lives, but sorta forgot to mention that they were a Civil War Deserter who was also an escaped convict and had managed to be pardoned after paying off quite a few people!
Hope you are enjoying your hobbies and collections!

surfboards
Whether Dick wants to admit it or not, I'd say he collects surfboards. We just had a beautiful surfboard rack made for our lanai. It displays his 11 boards. (OK some belong to our daughter and I use the stand up board.)

yes i collect lots of things
old vintage things, my house is decorated with primitive furniture. i also am trying to incorporate shabby chic, which i love. i collect old vintage cups and saucers, antigue bottles, vintage pottery, lamps, oil lamps, almost everything i own is collectible. i had a garage sale a year ago and sold a lot of crocks (i had too many) and other things. boy i still miss a lot of the stuff i sold. my problem is i keep collecting (altho i am getting better) but i moved a 3 bedroom home to an 800 sq feet home and i have too much stuff. i'm becoming a hoarder, lol. i love to treasure hunt.

I collect heart stones. I don't have many and they can be hard to find. Just a heart shaped stone. From the ocean, river, wherever. I keep them in a round glass dish and I love the contrast of the idea of stones being so strong held in a fragile glass dish.

tesslee for your hearts....
It's not often you find one, but it does give you something to look for. And be imaginative with the shape, just like when we draw them sometimes they are tall and thin, short and rounder, one side a little mishapen. It's a great thing to collect :)

I used to think no
I don't collect anything ... I'm a bit of a less is more sort of person. But, one day when I said to a friend that I don't collect anything ... she promptly corrected me and said ..."Oh Lori, everyone knows you collect experiences." So yes, I collect life experiences. Of course not all of my collection is pretty and exciting ... but, they are all mine.

Hmmm....yes, Lori. I think I can admit to that one too and didn't see it till just now. Whether I like it or not, they are there, and they are mine.

Music boxes (from very small to very large)....
And Delft pottery....and people (my FAVORITE collection!).
My boxes are either cylinder or disk, and some don't look like music boxes until you pick them up, or move them, or so on. I also have a general rule that they must be older than I am....I have, at last count, 67 boxes of all sizes and shapes...Western Europe is a GREAT place to find them...
Also jewelry, when my beau gets to it...lol! We are visiting a friend in Antwerp in a few weeks...you know, one of the big places that sell diamonds...hummm...
GREAT topic!

Ducks..
Hi Maggie,
I collect ducks...just water fowl...wood ducks...mallards etc. We were making plans to move to the river last year and find a log cabin in the woods, but once I was diagnosed with this cancer, Steve decided to keep working for the insurance. Anyways...for years I've been collecting decor suitable for decorating a log cabin...maybe someday. You can see a few of my ducks in the background of a picture in the expression gallery I posted earlier today. I love your darling cottage!

A collection which cannot be bought or expanded upon
My fraternal grandmother was a farmer’s wife and had to be very frugal as they raised not only their three children, but also five of my grandfather’s siblings.
She was a wonderful correspondent and received many cards and post cards in return. She used to make the most wonderful books for birthday and Christmas gifts from cutouts from the cards.
She would take sheets of note paper and sew them together. Then she would go thru her collection of cards and cut out pictures and paste them on the pages. Then in her small clear hand she would write something about the picture which related to the person she was sending it to.
These wonderful small books not only speak to the inventiveness of the times but also of the love for the person who was to receive it.
She went to heaven many years ago, but I still miss getting those very special gifts from her heart.

pepe I also collect and make quilts....have posted one of the bedrooms of the cottage on expressions....I like to buy fabric at flea markets and thrift stores and make my quilts from that. In the winter I have many woolen quilts that are made from men's suiting fabric....tailors will often give you lovely samples books of wool when they are finished with them.
Cottage or camps or cabins are very popular in Canada....lots of them are on the water....pepe do you have summer cabins at the seashore in Spain??

hair receivers
I collect them. They are porcelain and used to collect the hair from your brush and are usually part of a dresser set. The bulk of my collection came from an inheritance. I used to visit this old lady a lot when I was a child and I went shopping with her to antique stores too. When she died, she left them to me.
I used to go antique shopping with my mom and she purchased many for me. I probably have 200 of them.
