    Happy Farting and Pooping!

Now stop flirting with the nurses and get back in bed, we all know how you take a shine to nurses!

    glad it went well
    Kerry,

I'm very happy that the reversal went so well. Is it common for such a short stay after a reversal? I need to start working on getting mine reversed as well. Also did they do it laproscopically, or did they open up your belly? Sorry for so many questions, I'm glad you are up and about and doing well. And definety watch out for them farts, I hear they can be a little tricky at first.

I was in for 2 days with my reversal, and they just cut around the stoma, repair and rejoin, I had an open wound where they did it as this is a dirty site because of the bowels. But I had to keep a bandage covering it for about a month and went about my business.

I know for me that mine will have to be an open surgery. My resections were open surgery and I now have hernia and adhesion problems that have to be addressed. I also have an end colostomy instead of a loop. The loops are much easier to reverse as it can all be done right at/inside the stoma site with just a few stitches to close things up.

make sure you ask about them
make sure you ask about them meshing your abdomen to prevent any hernia's. My hernia surgery tis coming Thursday may entail them opening me up the same as the resection. Now if they had done this from the get go, I would not be having to deal with this again.

Naww.... They put mesh in me after the re-op (a week+ after the
initial surgery), and I ended up with adhesions and hernias anyway.

There's just "so much" you can play with, before mom nature
shows you a thing or two.

Hey..... Please, keep in mind, that surgery to fix an adhesion
or a hernia usually results in more adhesions and hernias. If you
can avoid the surgery, avoid it. Ask about Laparoscopic surgery,
it might be better, even if only a small margin.

    Keep healthy thoughts.

    wow, congrats!
I'm so glad you're feeling well enough to wander down to the nurse's station and give us an update! I pray your healing goes quickly and retraining your bowels goes well.

Not trying to jack Kerrys thread
    Hi Lori,

You and I are in the same boat so to speak, mine is an end diversion colostomy. I really need to speak with the surgeon and find out what my reversal will entail as far as what procedure and how much healing time off work.

    Yeah Don
I was told the the end diversion is a bit more of a surgery than the loop. UGH, just what I wanted to hear. I'm looking at getting it done as soon as I finish my 12 rounds of FOLFOX. That puts it somewhere in the April to May time zone. Let me know what goes on with you.

geez only a couple of days
geez only a couple of days in, and real live food after a couple of days???? man that hardly seems fair. I was in for 7 fricken days, cut from there to here and no food for most of that time as the colon was "napping". I think my Mayo colorectal surgeon likes all her students to ge their hands in there and play around with Colly the Colon. She did tell me right before surgery that she wasn't sure this was going to be done in one surgery, that the pieces, point A and point B might now connect together perfectly, in which case she would connect them but I would have to have another TEMPORARY one on the OTHER side, just till this one healed. Gaud that was a tough week. Everything fit back together, but then I was back in 6 months for a hernia repair. One would think she could have put the mesh in before?? Now why, when insurance will cover yet another hospitalization???????

Ok- so make sure the colon is plenty awake before you leave. Cause man having to go to the ER for an NG tube is probably the pits.

I was thinking about you yesterday Kerry. I was driving my dad's tractor through the woods with a load of logs. It was snowing, which is uncommon here in early December. Nothing like a slow tractor ride through beautiful snowy woods.
    Get Home.
