Have any of you got tattoos that address the cancer battle and survivorship? I have seen online some Livestrong tattoos or the various cancer ribbons on people. Have any of you got any ink related to being a survivor?

But I like the sound of it. Other than the radiation tatoos, it is probably what I would have have tatooed on my body; I am not a big ink fan on me. God luck finding what you want.

My only tatoo's are my 3 radiation dot's. I have a friend who is a Non Hodgkin's and Renal Cell carcinoma NED for almost 5 years. Around her ankle is the word Survivor written in a swirly script with vine's and two flowers with the color's of her two cancer's. And on the renal flower, a petal is falling off in memory of her Father who lost his battle to the renal cancer. It's a beautiful tatoo.

Onc says "NO" to those and even ear piercings. It seems that they want to be the only ones to prick me with needles!

That's because they like you ...uh-huh, uh-huh!

I know they are concerened about blood infecttions + all tattooartists/ear piercers are not created equal, at least not here in Canada, regarding practices.

Whether you have cancer or not, you have to be concerned about the cleanliness of your tattoo artist. A good one is worth his/her weight in gold. I got my star tattoo in the middle of treatment, with my oncologist's blessing. It was my second tattoo and there was no problem. We did hold off on the Avastin for one treatment, however. A tattoo generally heals in 2 weeks, so it's not a big deal, just time it correctly.

Not yet ... but I have been planning on something since my diagnosis. Probably once I finish chemo I will have something drawn up. Only 5 more months to think about it. ;)

I saw a photo somewhere on this board that was a man with the blue colon cancer ribbon tattoed around his upper arm. Don't remember where I saw it, probably on an expressions page.

I have the blue star ribbon tattooed on my right shoulder, with a butterfly attached to it. My best friend got the same, minus the butterfly, with the chinese characters for best friend in the center of the star on her left shoulder. Both my sisters have the star ribbon with chinese character for sister in the center, my daughters have the star ribbon with chinese character for mother in the center and stars around it.

They wrote all over with sharpies, and my daughter had to re-write them daily after my shower/bath...ROFL! (One time I asked her to make a happy face, off to the side, just to see if the techs would notice...they did, and laughed!)

My rectal cancer was squamous cell....more commonly, skin cancer...

I don't want to compromise my skin, and send the alert to the 'cancer sentries'....

I DO love to see a tat like Mary's (msccolon) and her sis'...just not on me...I am the perfect example that if something can go wrong (like cancer), it will for me...

Hugs, Kathi

When I had radiation, they used tats (just dots really). At each treatment, the sharpies came out, I guess to make it clearer.

By the way, your newest photo is beautiful Come on up at Christmas and class up the joint!
