Results are....

PET Scan shows a tumor growth in lower left lobe (Lung). Onc seems to think that it is not metastisis from CRC but new primary growth, either way it is what it is...CEA and PET both move towards it being cancerous growth. He is setting up CAT scan for the end of the week and is going to get me set up to talk with a Thoracic surgeon...I will not stay in Paducah to have this done so I am looking for other options. I am thinking Im going to speak with Vanderbilt again to see what they have to offer...Yep, kind of a shock to actually hear it but I will be ok no matter what. I simply need to get things arranged. Any pertinent info on what to expect in surgery, recoup times, surgeons, hospitals, etc would certainly be appreciated. Kinda in a whirlwind right now and wife doesn't know yet.....gonna be a long night...betcha everything will be ok though.......Love to all, Buzz

Donna still needs prayers, lets just concentrate on her for now...I know Im gonna be fine......

    Hey Buzz
Boy...do I know how you feel. They have not conclusivly said mine is a CRC met either. That will be decided next week when biopsy is done. How big is yours?... LOL..hummm...you know what I mean. Its a hard decision on surgery or Cyberknife or RFA or whatever. I had to go thru each option and weigh the pros and cons and decide what was best..FOR ME. I know you will be weighing all your options as well. It is wonderful that we both HAVE options. I know..like you do...that this is just another bump in the road... we will drive right over those bumps and be on our way.... and yes... thats just the way it is.....Luv to you my friend

    Hey Buzz -

I wish your attitude would rub off on everyone.

You -will- do fantastic ! There's a certain Karma that manages
to permeate your posts; an aura that life -will- continue, in spite
    of a setback or two.

And it will, you'll do fine.

Sorry for this news, Buzz. I
Sorry for this news, Buzz. I wasn't sure if CEA levels rising were only in colon and rectal cancers. Guess not. I so hope you find a good Doctor and get it removed. My thoughts and prayers are with you all the others on this board and off. I think of Donna and Kimby all the time. I hate cancer. Love Paula

    Go Get 'Em, Buzz!
    Hey Buzz

I'm sorry to hear this news, but you saw it coming - still, hearing it confirmed on paper or through the doctor's words still rings a resounding Thud. I know you will be fine, because you are one of the warriors. Yours has always been a resounding strength, though deep underneath, I do understand what you are feeling - I say this as I've just traveled this path you are going down about 2 weeks now - even though we've been watching it for 6-months.

Strangely, the confirmation of the cancer has instilled in me again the willingness to stand back up and back cancer back down once more. I'm sure as soon as you wrap your mind around it again, you will feel the same. We're a couple of old men that cancer cannot have - not yet anyway.

My new tumor was colorectal mets (had been hiding underneath my other organs for awhile just laying in wait). But the ribs they cut out of me and my chest cavity that they scraped show no growth or mets there, so that's the upside - and I'm going with it. I'm looking at possible radiation and/or a new chemo regimen - after I meet with specialists, I'll know more of what I need to do to handle my b'ness.

My surgery was a real whip, very major surgery close to removing a whole lobe or lung itself. Chest tubes in for 13 days. Morphine made me appear to be more of a Superman than I really am - gives you that kick to get it done. Once home, the reality sets in and things slow down. Recovery will be a couple of months I suspect and then we'll see about treatment.

I'd be more than happy to recommend my surgeon and my hospital in Dallas. I am their living testimony and a poster child for their hospital and their treatments. Even though the DaVinci fell thorugh because we had to go full blown to get this big tumor, I'm still helping the hospital and look forward to their article they wrote on me in a month or so. They are a first rate hospital and I got good care.

I know it's a whirlwind - I was ready to go to one surgery room and then at the last moment, we switched gears and went to another O/R. The fact that I can write to you today should tell you something right there. I saw your post and felt the strength to get up and talk to you. You are my friend and I value this opportunity to talk to you and help prop you up, but you don't need me. But, I am here if you need me. KY to TX, just an email or phone call away.

You hang in there, buddy. The wife will get on-board. My dear one has had 6-years of this $hit and she is stressed beyond belief, but still standing by my side. What more can I ask for?

Thinking of you as well as everyone here - love returned many fold!

P.S. You and I can walk this Mile of our journey together, Clift:)

Buzz - you are too ornery
Buzz - you are too ornery for cancer. It can't live inside of you. There is too much piss and vinegar inside of you. It will burn the cancer out. The cancer cells will say " this is Buzzard - We are outta here!!!!

Craig, you have come too far
Craig, you have come too far to let this kick you in the butt. So far you are undefeated in the fight against cancer. You've never had any treatment that didn't work so far. Let's keep up it up.

    So sorry
    Hey, Buzz.

As you know, I've been so fortunate in my early diagnosis, so I don't have any advice about surgery or treatments for you. I just want to say that I'm praying for you and your wife. I know that's going to be a hard conversation tonight.

You're always strong for anyone who needs it here, so please don't hesitate if you need a little TLC. We're happy to give it to you! And I am quite sure Donna would want prayers to include you.

    *hugs*

There is no limit on the prayers, good thoughts and good mojo that a person can generate for others...so while we all are sending lots to Donna, there are plenty there for you as well.

I hope that you can find the right combo of docs and hospital which will help you get past this latest setback.

    Sorry to hear
Sorry to hear you are facing more surgery and probable cancer again. There are others here going through the same as you, or that have gone down that road before that can give you information and advice, just like you always share yours.

It this is more cancer, primary or not - you'll send every last cell packing. NOT WELCOME in your body. It sucks to even have to go through all this again - the shock of hearing there is tumor growth, more scans and surgery, and all the waiting to find out the specifics. Add to that the stress of having to tell your wife you are headed down the medical uncertainty road for a bit again here. But you always have such a good attitude and level head, that you'll get through it. We're all here for you - come and vent if you need to. And I'm sure when you post your surgery options there are plenty here that can give you all the info you seek.

Cancer can't win, it will lose yet again. Plus 41 more years is what you said and I am holding you to that. Good luck telling your loved ones, that is always heartbreaking.
