PSA went up after 6 months of Adrogel (testosterone)

After 6 months of being prescribed Androgel at 5 mg level my psa went from 2.8 to 5.1 to 6.5. I have no symptoms other than psa level went up. I'm 71 years old and my Doctor took me off Androgel and now wants to do a biopsy to see if it is due to cancer of the prostate. If any of you have had a similar experience with harmone therapy I would appreciate your input. Could it be from enlarged prostate or sex within 24 hours of test or is it most likely from cancer of the prostate?

From what I have read, the increased PSA can be caused by what you describe. Plus for me lots of cycling could have caused the increase. If you have a digital prostate exam right before you had your PSA test that could cause an increase

When I was having my biopsy/ultrasound the urologist spotted a couple of small stones in my prostate and said the irritation that these caused my have elevated the PSA score too.

Good luck with your biopsy. If this is your 1st biopsy, the only thing I will add is it wasn't that bad. On a scale of 1 to 10 I would give it a 2. And the majority of that 2 rating was more about just it being uncomfortable rather than any pain.

    Ok Dan
If that is true about PSA rising after a digital exam....then I have a question for anyone either knowing from research or otherwise...but first need to qualify the question with I am serious about this and in no way trying to make a joke or poke any fun because I don't want anyone to take this the wrong way...but, if that is true, then I would expect many gay men would have false (high) PSA tests. I always try to analyze everything so don't read anything into this. I have a very active and analytical imagination.

Ok, back to my project of building a retaining wall for "Man Cave #2"
