If you get CT Scan and/or PET/CT scans, do you really need a mammogram?

Hi, this just occurred to me. I am scheduled for a PET/CT Scan at the end of May. I have had a CT Scan in July of 2009 and PET/CT Scan in July of 2009 and PET/CT Scan in October of 2009 and now this one coming in May. I am due for my annual mammogram. I was thinking that do I really need this? What are your thoughts.

    I'm pretty sure the answer is yes.
    I had the same scans last year as well. Nobody said anything about the breast. I have had a suspicious area in one breast for a few years that I had mommogrammed a week or so ago. The area had changed "drastically" in the last few years. Ultimately I had a biopsy because the calcifications looked like they could be suspicious.

    Mammogram/PET/CT
    I just had a 3 month check up and told my gyn/onc that I was due for a mammogram. She scheduled it for me. I had a CT in January 2010 which was one month after the end of my last chemo treatement. I also with this appointment was told I should have a bone Dexa scan because I have never had one ( I am 54yrs old) and also I have been having some hip pain off and on and due to the radiation they want to make sure that I haven't had any damage. Sooo....it would be my opinion that we still need mammograms or MRI of breast.
    I get my mammogram on Tuesday....it will be a piece of cake compared to all the treatments one gets for uterine cancer.

    kathy,

    interesting question. my gyn/onc recommended i have a mammogram before chemo, then my chemo doc said absolutely not--that the chemo for the cancer came first, and that if there were breast cancer, the chemo would treat it. so i never had the mammogram, and last treatment was almost 6 months ago. i have an appointment with my chemo doctor monday, and will ask her what she recommends re: mammogram, at this point.

    btw, has any one else experienced pain on the side about waist high, probably at the rib, above the hips? feels like a bruised bone there, but i don't recall having bruised it. it's probably one of those off and on again pains i've been posting and complaining about.

    I completed all my treatments last July and at the last appt my oncologist told me to continue with my yearly mammogram. So...in December '09 I had it and was fine. I did have a scare as the gal who did the scan had issues with my port and you know it showed up with a dark spot....back in I went for an ultrasound. It was fine and just due to the port...so remind them about the port.

    Don't see any reason not to have the mammogram do you?

    Jan, I do get yearly
    Jan, I do get yearly mammograms and after my initial chemo I was getting a mammogram every six months. My question was if I am getting CT and PET Scans, (I have had 4 since July), do I really need a mammogram this year. I feel that the scans would reveal anything there.

    I seem to recall that I have had that pain. My was on the left side. Like so many others on this site, I still get roving pains. Pinch here, tingle there. I finished chemo in May of 2006. Sometimes my pains are more when the weather is changing.

    This is what my doc told me, we'll continue with follow-up exams with CT/PET and you must still have the one yearly mammogram. Now your doc might be different not sure.

    You mentioned roving pains....yep that's me. I'm always so tight and seems like always doing my yoga to loosen things up. Still have a bigger pain in my buttock area which is called the sacroilliac. My chiropractor hasn't done xray but thinks it could be arthritis...yikes already??? My oncol said it's not cancer and possibly I'm just getting older and we all have more pain when we age. A girl in my local therapy group has pains all all and was so concerned it was in her bones(breast cancer girl). Her doc did test and it's considered arthritis....and in her early 40's. Doesn't seem fair hum?
