I'm looking for suggestions on diet and supplements to get my body ready for chemo. I just had a resection and they are giving me a month to heal and get my strength up before starting chemo and I want to use this time to my advantage.

I am mostly vegetarian. I do a small amount of dairy - yogurt and cheese. I do eat seafood and fish, white meat chicken and turkey (no skin). No red meat. Whole grains, fruits and veggies are my staples - I don't eat a lot of seafood or foul.

Is there anything you've tried before, during, or after chemo that you feel helped you stay stronger?

    Hi Kathryn
    Hi Kathryn,
It sounds like you are on a good diet. One thing I suggest is move as much as possible before beginning treatment. When you can walk around the block do it. When you can walk around the block twice, go for it. Being fit helped my husband a lot during treatment. This is totally doable.
    Best to you.
    Aloha,
    Kathleen

    Hi,

I just wanted to give you a little piece of info that helped my husband, even though we lost our battle three weeks ago. We found that when he started taking B-12,his red and white blood counts stayed at an aceptable level and he never required transfussions or extra drugs for this issue.

    Juicing - Yes!
Emily, the juice chick, on this site would tell you to get juicing. I agree. We buy apples, carrots, and a variety of fruits and veggies and juice. Many people on this site believe it is very good for you and so do I.

Exercise is important. Keeping your body strong helps everything.

Drink lots of water, green tea, and juice during chem to push the chemo out of your body.

Saltines (or without salt) crackers are good for any nausea that may crop up.

Good luck and let us know how it goes for you.
