Hi, I am a 2X survivor of lung cancer. Both were encapsulated and both were removed with surgery. I feel fortunate that in both cases no chemo or radiation was involved. So I feel pretty lucky.

You are very fortunate. How did you find it originally?

Me too, I lost 1/2 of my left lung and 31/2 yrs later I lost a little better than 1/4th of my right lung. That has been since 1991, and I'm still clean.

Sentra, hoping you can give me some information on how long it took you to get back to feeling 1/2 way human after your surgery, I had top 1/3 of my right lung removed last November, I still feel weary and fatigued, and am still using oxygen some. I guess I just wondered if you you had fatigue this long after surgery and so on, it is extremely difficult to get this kind of question answered by doctors. I go for a follow up CT Scan 5/13/03 here's hoping my luck continues to hold. I know no matter how lousy I still feel somedays, many others are not so lucky

Hi I am a 1 time cancer survivor of lung cancer. Mine was encapsulated and of a stage 1B. The surgen removed the lower left lobe november 13, 2002. I do not need chemo or radiation, how long dose it take for the numbness to leave the chest? this is the only disconfort i have and it is not bad.

I also had upper 1/3 of my right lung removed in November of 2002..I did not need radiation or chemotherapy nor have I ever been on oxygen. Do you have emphysema or some other condition that would cause you to have breathing problems? I felt tired and fatigued for about 6 or 8 weeks, but now I feel great. I have days of course where I feel tired, etc, but that happened before cancer...Has you doctor checked for something else that might be causing you to be tired and fatigued all the time? I think this might be a good idea. It may be low iron, thyroid or any one of a dozen things not connected to the cancer. Hope you scan wwnt well in May. I had one in March and it was good. also, I go back to the oncologist in July for another check. I hope all is well for both of us...and I hope you get an answer to your problem because it doesn't sound like much fun.........

    Did you do Chemo after
Did you do Chemo after surgery? Are you still cancer free? I am having to make the choice of Chemo or no Chemo. Such a personal and hard one to make.

    Lung cancer
Hi I have had lung cancer twice too. The first one was back in 1996 i had my right upper lobe removed and then In 2008 I had it again and had my left bottom lobe removed, I didn't have to have chemo or radiation. I was very lucky. I caught it in time both times. It's a very hard surgery to go through and I hope I don't have to go through it again. I feel so very blessed. I lost my Father and Brother to Lung cancer. It's nice to hear that I'm not alone. Even though I would never wish it on anyone. It's not an easy thing to go through.I enjoy everyday because you never know what the next day is going to bring.

    Numbness
Surgeons often have to move or cut nerves to get to the area they are working on. If the nerves aren't cut, they sometimes recover. When they are cut, the pathways are permanently changed. I had surgery back in 2006 for lung cancer. The first surgery was a VATS procedure. The second happened in less than two weeks and was a modified VATS. They bumped into a nerve the second time around that works with the abdominal rectus muscle and to this day situps are near impossible for me to do. But the physical therapist said that other muscles would eventually take over and I needed to keep trying. I'm up to 2 situps tops so far, but my crunches are getting much better. The skin numbness is there too. It seems better though than it used to be. Even in the last year (4 years down the road) I have noticed that while it is there, it isn't quite as "there" as it used to be. Massaging the area seems to help a bit. I have to be careful not to scratch too hard if something itches (mosquito bite last week) or I can scratch too hard without knowing it.

    Dates
    Dear Cd,

I just noticed the dates on the previous posts on this line and think maybe we need to start a newer post. This site saves posts from WAY back. I don't know about everybody, but I don't go back more than one page on a busy discussion board or back more than 2 months on a slow one. (This one is slowly getting more hits.) The other folks move on too. You aren't alone and I'm glad to hear from you too! Try a newer post or start a brand new one and you are more likely to hear from other folks sooner.

What do you mean it was
What do you mean it was encapsilated? What type of cancer was it?

Catcon, the post you are asking about is six years old :) (I've been guilty of this, too)
