    Just Wondering....
So- I am a little confused. I have been trying very hard to purchase organic greens, etc. I have been getting the mix in a plastic container- but the code starts with a 8- not a 9. It does state it is organic. But- from your info does that mean it is indeed genetically modified? If that is the case I need to do much more research before I buy. I have been getting fruits and vegies through an organic door to door delivery- purely organic from local farmers. I feel very confident in them. But it concerns me that so many things are stated organic and indeed may be genetically modified.

You wisdom on this would be appreciated. I thought I was doing so well. Now I am wondering.

    You're doing great!!!
What is the brand of greens? Earthbound? It may be the store code versus the universal PLU code.

By FDA regulations, organic CANNOT be genetically modified so I think you are fine but let's make sure.

Good for you supporting your local organic farmer, is it a CSA (community sustained agriculture) farm. Those are cool too.

    Asparagus to cure Cancer
Someone posted on cancer.org in the thread, Nutrition - Living Smart, asparagus as a cure for cancer... anyone heard good things about asparagus and the benefits for cancer? I searched and found this article on the subject:

    Asparagus is great for you
My naturopathic doctor had me eat it as often as I could while I was fighting the beast. I still do and even grow it myself. It is in season now and is so good.

    Interesting article, thanks,

I had anal cancer and my colorectal surgeon suggested I avoid any food product with nitrates, i.e., sausage, bacon, etc. I also do not eat any food that has been cooked over a charcoal grill - only a gas grill. I eat meat but I buy organic without any additives - same for chicken and pork. When buying chicken, if it has been enhanced with a percentage of anything, it has nitrates. Nitrates are a form of carcinogens. I do not eat hot dogs, lunch meats (unless it's Boars Head), bacon or sausage. I do try to eat my vegetables in their natural state first and then steam them. Frozen is best after natural. Canned has preservatives and sodium. And remember....if you think everything is listed on the can, it isn't.

    My 2 cents worth!

    You are so right
about not everything being on the labels, as most people with nut and wheat allergies will tell you. If there are just traces of things, they are now required to include it. I was really surprised to learn that there are over 1500 approved food additives and some are disgusting (like bugs and nasty chemicals but they give them fancy names so you won't know). An example would be a form of formadehyde is used to make bread so it never mildews, it just get hard as a board. Real bread without the additives will mildew in a few days if it isn't refridgerated or frozen.

If you're bored, go get a few things out of your fridge or cabinet and google the items listed on the ingredients especially the ones you can't pronounce and have never heard of. It is pretty scary.

PS. You are doing great daaspears!!! You body says thank you!!!

    Petrified Happy Meal
A few years ago I took my father to an alternative nutritionist and he showed him a Happy Meal that he had sitting on his shelf for years. There was not a smidgeon of mold on it. It was just dried and a little bit shriveled.

GM foods are paving the way to totalitarianism. He who controls the food controls the world. Forget about oil. Food and water will be the big issue when it all comes down.

Become a Locovore and support your local CSA!! They often use heirloom seeds that help to ensure that in the future we can actually grow our own food that has NOT been tampered with by the Monsantos of the world.

Supporting organic growers is more than just about foods without pesticides; it's about survival of food, period. If one cannot collect seeds from the foods (as in GM foods), then one is reliant on mega-agribiz for seeds and then the control starts. They can engineer a seed to only work in tandem with their chemicals. Some are engineered with the pesticides built right in. No thank you!

peace, emily who lives within spittin' distance of her CSA.

    Independent Filmmaker Warns
There are lots of people around with odd bees in their bonnets. Is the article a fair assessment of the evidence available? I have my doubts. Note that the article states: "Not a single human clinical trial on GMOs has been published." Then how secure can the conclusion be that they are harmful? And the credentials of the author, Jeffrey M. Smith, who is an independent filmmaker, also do not fill me with confidence.

    Anyone ever juice asparagus?
We had some asparagus I didn't have time to cook so I just juiced the whole bunch. It didn't taste too bad in my drink. Can I assume that if asparagus is good for us raw/cooked it's even better juiced?

    Thanks!!
