Is it actually ok to have a small glass of wine even though you have cancer? I hear some of the wine is actually good, and with the Oscars being on tonight, and chemo coming up on Wednesday, I was actually thinking of having a small glass of wine to just relax with.. will it hurt me???

    To each their own...
but my oncologist said absolutely no wine or liquor at all while on treatment. I know you need to balance your life but right now give your liver every shot you can at getting healthy. I LOVE wine but I found a sparkling water juice combo that tastes good. While it doesn't fool my palatte it is a good distraction.

    I do
I asked my Oncologist about alcohol during chemo and he said "moderation, you can have it, but not the whole bottle". I drink far less than ever, mostly because of how I feel or how things taste while on chemo, but I have a glass of wine or a beer 4 or so days a week if I feel like it.

I was told by my oncologist that I could, but not to mix with pain meds. It would probably be wise to discuss this with your doctor first, since what's right for some of us may not be best for all. Enjoy the Oscars!

    Thanks all!
I'm not much of a drinker, I would do it just socially, I liked a beer and a glass of wine now and then, I'm not much on the hard alcohol stuff, but for some reason, I sure did have a taste for a glass of blush wine, even just a small one, it's been 11 days since chemo, and 3 till my next, I think just a small glass for just the evening I hope wouldn't hurt me :)

I am just a tea totaler, changed my whole eating and drinking habits after my colon surgery,Love starbucks would have one almost every other day now once a month stopped eating red meat only eat chicken and turkey fresh vegetables and fresh fruit. Basically is the way I ate before cancer except for coffee and red meat. Never cared for the taste or the feeling of Alcohol. Go for my second chemo treatement on Monday I will be thinking of you when you go for your Treatment on Wednesday, Wednesday they will take the needle out of me and I return the fanny pack. Out of Jail, and who knows how I will be feeling afterwards.

    Good Luck
...Tomorrow Irene, I'll be thinking and praying for you, and hope this time around will be better then the first for you, while you are having yours removed, I'll be having mine put in, and removed on Friday, it seems once the pump runs out, and the medicine stops dripping, I seem to get my second wind back, very weak, but look forward to feeling better again.

I never was a meat eater, I always ate just pasta, seafood, chicken and turkey, not too much red meat at all, except I make good meatballs with my spaghetti! I think sometimes whether you eat not the right things, smoke, drink, or don't, you're always damned if you do, damned if you dont, know what I mean? I know the healthiest vegetarians who are so fit, who have had heart attacks, and then the people who are smoking their whole lives, and live to be 80! it's all fate to me, your path...

I wish I was there to hold your hand tomorrow Irene, let me know if it was any better for you the second time around, just remember you make sure they know about all that nausea..

Round 2... here we come ;)

    Hugs and Smoochies,
    ~Donna

    occasional
While on chemo, I had the occasional glass of wine. Sometimes didn't taste very good. Other times it was a real treat. My onc monitored my liver counts. At one point, when the liver counts got high (due to the chemo, not my wine consumption!) he said OK -- no more wine. That was fine for me.

    Hi Donna,
    Hi Donna,
I'll be thinking about you when you go in this week. I hope your good days stretch out. **** should start his Chemo the following week. Also thanks for sharing about your experience. It makes me feel like I might know a bit about what **** might go through.
In regard to the wine, I don't have the answer. However, we drink a delicious pomegranate and sparkling water mixture that you might like.
    Take care.
    Aloha,
    Kathleen

    wine ect,ect.ect.
I don't really know what caused my cancer. I have some serious suspicions but no facts. as a result i consider everything innocent till proven guilty. i didn't drink during chemo because I was on some diabolical stuff called levamisole. It changed the taste of everything. I don't drink now because I have a serious kidney disease(possibly caused by fleet prep or anti-inflammatories) In between I ate and drank pretty well what I liked whilst trying to consider my waist line. That didn't work either. What the hell life is to be lived ,you can't store it up for later,,,,eat drink and be merry,,cheers Ron.

    It was good...
I like a small glass of White Zinfandel, and I had about half a glass actually, not much at all, it was good and I probably won't drink anymore of it again. For some reason, watching the Oscar's with a little glass of wine was a little tradition for me that I can now watch without it :)

I love a Hawaiian punch with ginger ale and Pineapple juice, and then throw a scoop of sherbert in it, kind of a nice frothy punch drink that I also made for me and the kids :)

    Hi Shayenne,
    My oncologist

    Hi Shayenne,
My oncologist allowed me to drink wine or beer in moderation. One or two at the most only on the off chemo week.

    It's ok
to have a glass or two - but like everyone else and my onc said - not the whole bottle. I drink a glass or 3 on my off week. Onc doesn not drink, but said red is better than white, so I compromised and went for the white zinfendel also. Then I found this box - delicious red. It's a bit more like koolaid, but not bad (I don't really like red wine unless it's lambrusco, sangria or mixed with 7up). What I did learn, the hard way, is that if you go overboard, the "next morning" is a tad bit harder on you than before! I did that Friday night, in an attempt to feel better (which I did then), and spent saturday in bed. :(

Yeah, I'm not a fan of red wine, but love the blushes. I definitely wouldn't drink right after a treatment or anything, I did wait till it was an off chemo week where I was feeling good, I wouldn't want to drink a whole bottle, I just like the taste of it once in awhile, it's so nice and relaxing at times to just have a nice hot bubble bath with a small glass of wine and some candles next to you, just to pamper yourself abit :)

    My...
..taste buds seem to come back about a week after treatment, otherwise, nothing tastes or even smells good! I remember Wes making breakfast sausage the Sunday after I got unhooked from the pump, and the smell drove me mad, almost puked! and I love sausage!

OoOO.. strawberries and champagne, now that was yummy.. you got me wanting punch for the weekend now..(if I can get it down) lol..
