Why have your appendix out with cancer hysterectomy?

I have Uterine Papillary Serous Carcinoma and recently had a radical hysterectomy, with radiation and chemo to follow after I am a little better healed up from the surgery. I was interested to read that some of you had your appendix removed during your hysterectomy and staging surgery. They didn't take mine, and now I am wondering whether they missed a place that the cancer may migrate to. They took my cervix, fallopian tubes, ovaries, uterous, 25 lymph nodes, remived some little fat pad, did a 'wash', but left my appendix in there. Can anyone tell me why an appendix would be removed during gynecologic cancer surgery?

    Don't need it!
    The appendix is consider just a sort of leftover vestige of an organ, no longer used or necessary, and it is typically removed with a total hysterectomy just as good housekeeping.
