Good news today! My husband had a CT scan today. (finished chemo in early May) Everything looked clear and bloodwork looked great. We couldn't be happier! We were grinning from ear to ear all the way home. My birthday was yesterday and I told my husband that all I wanted was a good report today. Sure glad he could come through with that for me!!Thanks to all of you for your thoughts and prayers.

The doctor said he could get his port out at his next check in three months if we wanted to. I'm wondering about that---maybe if he keeps it in he won't need it? Any thoughts on that?

Thanks Again!

Faith

YEA YEA YEA YEA YEA YEA YEA!!!!

    NAKED HAPPY DANCE!!!!!!

I kept my port for awhile, but then I was fairly sure that I had breast cancer after my rectal cancer treatment was over...

For as long as he keeps the port, he needs to have it flushed once a month...otherwise, it will close off and be of no use...

    Hugs, kathi

    Great news Faith!!!!!

I smiled at your question about ports. I was into a "I'm not changing anything I'm doing for fear of jinxing my luck", so I didn't have mine removed until 2 years after my last chemo treatment.

Keep us posted but mostly you both need to celebrate and just relax and enjoy!!!!!!

It's so awesome to see so many posts with good news! Congrats on the great scans.

Thoughts on port... I had mine taken out as soon as they could schedule me; in fact, I think I had it out within a couple of days after my last chemo My treating onc didn't say anything one way or the other. I was also living there temporarily just for treatment so my onc changed as soon as treatment was ended. My thought was, at the time, I am getting this thing out of me as soon as humanly possible because I am NOT going to do this cancer business again; therefore, keeping it in was pointless. :)

AWESOME! There has been a lot of great news this week and what a great birthday present for you. We are dancing right along with you both. Carl has decided (at least at this point) that he is going to keep his port in for a year or so. Just in case.
    Blessings,

What a great birthday present for you, congratulations, this has been a great week for good news,I had my port removed as soon as my Dr. order it, for me was like assuring that treatment was over, and I was not going to need it anymore.

    Fantastic news!

My Hubby had his port removed 2 weeks after his last treatment, but the choice is yours.

    Happy belated birthday!

I had my port removed right after treatment and unfortunately, 4 months later I had a recurrence so I had to have the port put back in. I wish I would have waited at least 6 months. I am a Stage IV, not sure what your husband is. Best of luck and congratulations!

Excellent! What a huge relief for both of you. My onc nurse told me that the majority of problems crop up during the first 6 months. I never had a port, so I can't say what you should or shouldn't do, but I would probably get it out after that 6 mos. period.
    Enjoy your success!

Always great to get good news! Congrats!

On port issue: my hubby was stage 4 in 2004 all surgically removed ... NED for 3 1/2 yrs. He refused to get port out 1. because he'd had enough surgeries and recoveries and (2) was afraid to have it out just to have it put back in if needed. Dr's tried to talk him into having it out, but he just refused and got port flushes every 6 weeks. He just had a recurrance this year and having that port there was just one small relief and one extra thing he didn'tt have to deal with... so as long as it still works. my hubby would say KEEP IT!
