Had a colonoscopy at two o'clock this afternoon. Some observations. It is getting progressively harder to cope with the prep, even tho I use the fleet prep it is all I can do not to bring it all straight back up again. |

So, with the polyps....were there any 'interesting' ones? Or is it time for a dance?

Hi Kathi,
Only little guys, nipped in the bud so to speak. That is my eighth scope in 9 years.
I would be doing the NAKED HAPPY DANCE except that it would scare the pets plus the fact that after the scope my wife tried to get me to accept a property settlement 75/25 in her favour, just as well I was awake. So I plod on Dressed and Dreadfully unhappy. Ron.

Re: Once again into the breach
Ron,I always feel a little old and faded after scopes, even when they go well. I think that's the medication and the prep. Meanwhile, we should all be so happy that we polyp producers can just be maintained like we are. I also hate the prep, and wonder if I will ever be able to deal with chemotherapy or any treatment again should the need arise. I go for scopes every 3 years (mine have all been clear since cancer). I still dread them and put them off and try and miss them....but....I do them. Take care and keep moving forward in your life.

Re: Once again into the breach
Hi Ron,
Congrats on the good news; I know what you mean about the preps...I have to reschedule my colonoscopy because I could not keep the prep down. NOTE TO READERS: DON'T READ ON IF YOU HAVE A DELICATE STOMACH.
I have used Go-litely (or Hurl Muchly, as with that one I puked foam through my nose; nice.) Then phospho soda...lost it from both ends much of the night, needed an IV stat on my arrival for the test. I have done OK with the citrate of mag for the last 2 preps, but not this time. It sat in my stomach for hours, then came back up; I was nauseous for hours. No prep, no test, and a long day of no food! My GI doc will have me try the miralax prep now, and give it a go next month. I'm still on yearly scans, but dreading it more each time!
Hope you feel tip top again soon. Judy

THE PERP IS HORRIBLE RON. BUT THE BEST NEWS IS YOU ARE CLEAR. I AM STILL ADMIRED BY YOUR STORY. I STILL READ IT OVER AND OVER WHEN TIMES ARE BAD FOR ME LIKE NOW. THIS RADIOLIGIST FEELS THESE MULTIPLE ENLARGED LYMPH NODES ARE PATHOLOGICAL.
I AM SCARED RON. MY BACK IS VERY BAD AND NOW THIS. I THOUGHT I WAS DOING FAIRLY WELL. YOUR FRIEND FRAN FROM LONG ISLAND.

Re: Once again into the breach
Hi Ron,
Considering the alternatives, scopes aren't that bad. I woke up during my last one and was fascinated. I will ask them to let me do that next year (I am on yearly ones since I am such a NED newbie).
I so hope they really do come up with another prep but some of it will never change since the ole colon has to be clean. I was amazed when my docs told me that over half don't follow the directions resulting in inaccurate tests and a very messy procedure. That I can't imagine.

Re: Once again into the breach
My second colonoscopy was two weeks ago -- took Visicol for prep. 40 pills. I thought it was lots easier to take than the Fleep phospho-soda, but I did have to pay $30 for it.
After the anaesthetist gave me a preliminary something to relax me, I was lying there wondering if they'd forgotten me, and a nurse told me I could get dressed any time I felt like it. It was over.
Not a bad experience, really. (I wouldn't care to watch.) My doctor found and removed two precancerous polyps.
