HI EVERYONE. Just got back from the orthopedic surgeon. He gave me the results of the MRI of lumbar area. This was my 3rd MRI. I have a fracture in the L1 (lumbar area). needle guided biopsy thru cat scan was done yesterday here on Long Island. Awaiting results of that to see if is cancer related. I just read the results of the MRI of lumbar area. It also states there are multiple pathologically enlarged lymph nodes in the retroperitioneal para-aortic space. In this pt. with colon cancer these are suggestive of metastatic disease. I am over whelmed right now. Many of the cat scans and MRI's done this past month have shown this enlarged lymph nodes. Some are calcified. I am now at the point where I am convinced this cancer is a separate issue in the lymph nodes. The last test I need right now is a pet scan. Right now I cannot lay down for this test. I cannot possibly lay down on my back with my arms above my head with a fracture. I bearly made it through the biopsy procedure. The othopedic surgeon has booked this kyroplasty where i would get pain relief where the fracture is in the L1. As far as the lymph nodes are concerned what other reasons could they be enlarged besides cancer!!. I am scared to death.
No wonder why my pancreatic enzymes fluctuate to highs and lows. The lymph nodes behind it must be enlarged with cancer. I think of all of you every day as you are great supporters. Your friend Fran

    Hi Fran,
I'm glad you were able to get through this last MRI; sounds like your doc was able to make a diagnosis and treatment plan based on it. My mother in law had the kyroplasty with great relief; hope the same happens for you. Lymph nodes can be enlarged from infection and inflammation, too. I hope they are able to figure this out for you. Are there other pain meds that would make a Pet scan tolerable? You remain in my thoughts and prayers. Judy

    Fran:

I am so sorry to hear about all the hardships, fear, and uncertainties that you have to go through right now. I wish there's something tangible I can do to help you, but alas, all I can do is to offer you some moral support.

Fran, you've just got to keep your faith in healing and fight the good fight. It does sound like you have a really with-it medical team who is doing what they can for you in a timely fashion.

Best of luck to you and please keep us posted!

    Fran,
I know there are standing MRI's, is there any chance there is a standing PET scan somewhere? Worth checking out. Lymph nodes can get crazy for a number of reasons.
You are being shot at from so many fronts, why don't you focus right now on easing the back pain? We saw the potential for breast cancer on my first PET scan for the CRC. We all decided that the CRC was more important. So, we sort of left the breast alone until after the treatment for the CRC. It gave me one thing to focus on. Too many fights at once weaken our ability to be effective.

Hugs from a "When is enough, ENOUGH?" survivor....

    Hugs, Kathi
