My mom lost her battle

On Sept 3rd, my mom lost a 2+ year battle with colon cancer. She was fortunate to have very little pain and was able to be home with the three of us and her grandchildren. In March mom was told her cancer was under control and she would be watched, she began to have problems in May and was scheduled to have a surgery for an obstruction, only to find out the cancer was out of control and there was really nothing they could do, she tried another treatment but by this time her ability to eat had been taken from her, however through it all she remained strong and was able to spend her last two months home with us, that was one thing that cancer could not take from us, was her desire to spend what time she had with her kids, she would not allow it.From the time she was diagnosed she continued to live, work and travel, her desire to live could not be taken by the cancer. God had given me the chance in life to spend every minute with her because I don't have to work, that is one thing I will always be greatful for, I have two wonderful brothers and sister in laws and of course the most amazing husband in the world, and this is all because I had the kind of mom I had. I will miss her and I think of her every day as I will always but she had a very strong faith and when she decided she could no longer do treatments I asked her if she believed there really was a better place and she said yes. A few hours before she passed, she woke up and I asked her how she was and her response always was, I am good, how are you and I said mom, I'm good too, she said thats good and she listened to my niece laugh, that made her smile, then she fell asleep, we stayed in her room for the next hour and we all talked and laughed as she slept, she passed during the night and was so at peace when we went to see her, there was no way we could wish her here just for us. We spent another hour or so saying our good byes and thanking god for her, our wonderful nurses and the great family and upbringing we were fortunate enough to have because Helen was our mom. I hate cancer and what it does, nothing will change that, I will continue to pray for everybody here and everywhere that is affected by this disease. My mom is in a better place now, she is with my dad, her mom and my brother, many others also. She told our nurse that her mom was her angel and that is who was coming for her. I take comfort in knowing that she is with her mom. Sorry to keep going on, I tend to ramble when I talk about my mom. Thanks for listening, and keep us all in your prayer as I will continue to do for all of you here. Hopefully someday soon this disease will be a thing of the past.

    Lisa,
That is so beautiful. I am very happy for you that you and mom got to experience the 'healing' part of the end of the journey. Your mom was obviously a very special person, and see what an incredible daughter she has!

It is not our place to question who does or doesn't foil the beast....and what it means to be victorious. As far as I am concerned, your mom WAS victorious....because although cancer was a part of her life, it was only a part....THAT is the secret.

I am certain that there is a better place, where your mom now sits and smiles proudly down at her daughter.

You have touched me very deeply with your post. Thank you.

    Hugs, Kathi

    Lisa,

Your post brought tears to my eyes since your mom passed shortly before my dad. She sounds like a wonderful person and she was lucky to have such a warm loving family around her at the end. Like my dad I believe she is up there watching over us and hopefully putting in a good word for all of us here on this board. I know it is hard to say but she is in a better place even though we miss them so much and will continue to do so for a long time. I try to take heart in all the good memories.
