Hello. I was just diagnosed as having PC. I have a Gleeson score of 6, and a biopsy to support the diagnosis. My original PSA was 5.1 and 4. I am 65 years old. I have been reading various things. Several posts here have been helpful. |

Re: Kaiser Surgeon?
I'm sorry for your diagnosis, although it does sound like your cancer was discovered early. I am a little confused in that I don't know what you mean by Kaiser surgeons? Can you explain. Is it a town or city nearby or what?

Re: Kaiser Surgeon?
Kaiser is a major health care hmo. It started in California and exists in several states.
Thanks for your good wishes.

Re: Kaiser Surgeon?
As well as the previous post I don't know what a
Kaiser surgeon is.
My advice.. Only use a surgeon who does only RP
operations. Practice makes perfect.. I had the same diagnoses as you at age 45 and am thrilled with the results..

Re: Kaiser Surgeon?
Hi Duane. I am 66 and have PSA of 5.2 and Gleason 6 and member of Kaiser in Walnut Creek. I have finished my consultations with two Kaiser surgeons, one of whom does the
laproscopic surgery, and the other the head of the department. I also got a referral to Radiation Onocologist at John Muir hospital close by. I asked my surgeons what the outcomes were and I got very good answers. The only problem I have is that Kaiser doesn't support the robot option, nor do they support the latest radiation treatment option which is IMRT. I am now fighting with them about that. Whichever way you go, Kaiser should be able to tell you their success rate by surgeon. Because of the 5-6 month backlog of prostate surgery at Walnut Creek, they wanted to move me to San Rafael which has less experience surgeons. I opted out of that and am going to go for the 3D conformal radiation at John Muir. One book I read said that of the three best treatment options for our level of cancer, just make sure you go with the best people that do it. One thing in our age favor is that we have all three options available to us. Good luck and keep us informed on what Kaiser tells you.
