    Hello,

You may want to contact the American Cancer Society's National Cancer Information Center regarding follow up treatment recommendations. Cancer Information Specialists are available 24 hours a day and can be reached by clicking on the "Contact ACS" link at the top of this page or by calling 1-800-227-2345. I wish your father the best.

    Take care and be well,

I had tandom stem cell transplants last year and have been on maintenance for nine months now. I am taking Thalidomide daily; Velcade and Dexamethasone periodically on a 28 day cycle. The plan is to continue this for three more months and then drop the Velcade and continue Dexamethasone and thalidomide for the next two years.

    Hello:
My mom was recently dx in May of 2008, and she did 4 cycles of the velcade, doxil and steroid treatments. ALso monthly Zometa too. She had 85 percent plasma cells through out her. Had 1 fracture, and we call them several hot spots on her nucler scan. She shoes the Bence Jones protien in her urine, but nothing shows in her serum. So each time she has to under go a bm biposy to see how things are going. I am glad to say that she has been off her chemo treatment for 8 weeks now, with total remission for her. She is going to undergo a BMT on December 4th this yr. She did her own stem cell harvest..which was just outstanding. They retrived 10.3 million cells and plan to use half for the first BMT and save the other half for future use if needed. She did develope neuropathy in her legs and since then two fractures in her spine. Her fractures in her spine is due to the chemo she was on, states the University of MI specialist. Our family just got great news yesterday that her last bm biopsy from last week showed no cancer growth in her bm, and that means that her stem cells that were retrived were/are also cancer free. It has been a hard road for her and also the whole family. She has had some side effects from all the treatment and is on morphine, and also delotin(cant spell it) for pain and also neurotin for her neuropathy in her legs. She is walking with a cane and also can't stand more than 1-4 minutes without being seated. She has been in the house since November 2nd except for DR visits and we have only had family in the house with masks on to help her counts for her. We don't want to give her any viruses or colds before her BMT. If you have any questions just ask. There is more to her case, as with all.
