hello
my father has bone metastasis.he has low back pain which is completely gone when he dosen't move.I think it is muscle spasm.he has no pain when I touch lumbar vertebra. Is it possible that this pain would be related to bone metastasis?

    Hi,
Anything is possible of course, but simply the knowledge that one has prostate cancer & bone pain is perhaps one of the side effects may possibly initiate a psychosomatic response to any real pain experienced.Depending on how soon after diagnosis I would suspect the latter is the case. I've noticed these kind of responses in the support group I've attended. One experiemces the pain & you think "my GOD it's the cancer" but more than likely if it's soon after the diagonsis it's merely all in your mind.
Take care & good luck. Hope you can convince your father of this.Tell him to have a real heart to heart talk with his doctor to see what he might say.

You didn't indicate whether your dad had a recent bone scan...Perhaps it would be helpful to identify the likely areas where his cancer has migrated...also, as we age degenerative issues arise such as arthritis... You also said you thought it was muscle spasms but what is that based on? In any case his situation should be conveyed to his doctor for futher evaluation...There may be something that can be done to help him...

Thank you Stuart.my father has an appoinment with his onco today.I really hope he would have good news for him.And I think he will have something like MRI.He has his sixth chemo (TAXOTER) today and psa test.I don't want think that these process with so many side effects didn't work.
