Pelvic Exenteration

My husband and I are going to Duke Univ on Monday to discuss the possibility of a pelvic exenteration as a result of his huge recurring cancer. Is there anyone who has any knowledge or experience of the real life consequences of this life changing surgery? We've read everything we can get our hands on and have two surgeons in the family but I'm concerned about how his quality of life will be after. Anyone?
thanks
Grace

    Grace -

I would suggest you hit the folks over at the penile cancer or prostate cancer site and see what they have to say. I would offer just one thought, what will your husband's quality of life be like fighting this recurring cancer for the rest of hs days versus the obvious implications of the surgery. Duke is one of the best - if there is an alternative out there, they will probably know about it.

Best of luck and I will keep you both in my thoughts and prayers.
