I must commend you for your care and concern. I have a great deal of respect for nurses. My Mom lights up whenever she sees her chemo nurses. They are so positive and reassuring. They treat her like a person, not an illness. Some of the general nurses at our local hospital were too busy. They were in such a rush they were not gentle when drawing blood or putting in IVs. My Mom suffered from infiltrated IVs, unnecessary pain, and permanently damaged veins. I think they were too stressed and overworked to respond compassionately. I think as long as you remain compassionate you will be an outstanding nurse. Best wishes in your nursing career, I hope you find the opportunity to be a ray of hope & encouragement to others the way my Mom's nurses are to us!

Listen to what the patient is saying and not saying. I'm tired can also mean 'Im depressed'. I'm not hungary can mean "I'm sick when I eat or I have to run to the bathroom every time I eat". Sometime YOU have to be an advocate to the Dr on behalf of a patient who has a hard time verbalizing their needs. Good luck
