Follow-up after treatment

I was diagnosed with cervical cancer in Feb '02 at age 37. I went thru 6 weeks of external radiation with chemo, followed by a week of internal radiation. My oncologist is optimistic about my recovery. My understanding is that the greatest chance of recurrence is within the first 2 years.

I am currently on a 3-month follow-up schedule w/my radiation oncologist. I have had 2 MRI's and one CT since finishing my treatment. I'm scheduled for another MRI next month, (at my request).

Has anyone undergone similar treatment? Is your follow-up timetable similar?

    Hello again,
I had the same treatment in 2001. Tne only difference is I had two internal radiation treatments. As far as follow ups I'm also still every 3 months. However, I haven't had any MRIs or CTs as follow-ups. Your doctor sounds very thorough. I'm anxious to hear what others say.

I had surgery, 5 weeks of ERT, and 2 IRT. I am on a 2-3 month schedule and have scans every other appt as well a "vault smears." A few of my friends are on the same schedule, so I think this is the standard protocol.
Good luck & stay "clean" :)!

I WAS ALSO DIAGNOSED WITH CERVICAL CANCER IN MARCH '01. I WENT THROUGH CHEMO AND RADIATION FOR 5 WEEKS. THE 1ST YEAR FOLLOWING, I WENT FOR REGULAR CHECK-UPS WITH MY OB/GYN EVERY 3 MONTHS. THE 2ND YEAR, EVERY 4 MONTHS, THE 3RD YEAR EVERY 6 MONTHS, THEN ONCE YEARLY. I ONLY SEE MY ONCOLOGIST ONCE A YEAR. I HAD A CHEST X-RAY AND MRI LAST WEEK-JUST AS A PRECAUTION. SO FAR NO REOCCURENCE. I HAD A COUPLE OF BAD PAPS DUE TO RADIATION BUT ALL IS BACK TO NORMAL NOW. I HOPE ALL IS GOING GREAT WITH YOU. YOU HAVE MY PRAYER.
