I'm scared

I'm 36. I had hodgkins when i was 21, had chemo & rad. Then at age 26 I had a recurrence, had a bone marrow transplant. I'm scared because I've been having sweats lately and I wish I didn't panic everytime I don't feel well. I am going to go see my doctor but I worry about being told I have it "again". I have really sore joints and hands and arms. Does anyone have any joint pain since having hodgkins or a bmt? I'm on hrt, so I'm hoping I'm only having hot flashes but it's difficult not to worry. If anyone would like to chat, my messenger addy is [email protected] Thanks.

I know how you feel. I had the 16 ABVD treatments and 5 weeks of radiation, then an autologous transplant. Like you I worry every time I get the sweats, or achy, or a bump, or tight in the chest. Getting it checked out is a good idea...if for no other reason than to alleviate your worrying about it. Most likely it isn't anything major. Maybe something is off like the hrt dose or your thyroid is now out of whack and you need synthroid. But don't quit paying attention to how your body feels. If it is something you'd want to catch it early so that you have more options about what to do about it, right?

I have had joint pain and muscle pain since finishing ABVD therapy in April. I am planning to ask my Dr. about it the next time I see her. I'll post anything that may help. I am also waiting to see if I have residual Hodgkins and whether I need a bone marrow transplant. I can understand the fear the waiting and the not knowing brings. I just don't know what to do with it either. I once thought that cancer was something you "defeated" but I am coming to realize that it is something that you live with. I think learning to live with the fear is what we have to do. I'm a planner and I don't know how to "plan" my life with this continually ready to knock me down.
I guess I just wanted to let you know I understand.

    Dear Anna James,

I would guess, if you've gone ten years (now 36, recurrence when you're 26) without any problems, it's not a relapse. It's my understanding if you can go five years without a relapse, you're considered cured. Good luck.
