Lung cancer and runny nose related?

My mom had a right pnemonectomy for squamous cell cancer (non-small cell) three years ago (after 6 weeks of radiation combined with chemotherapy-Taxol). 2 days shy of her 3rd "birthday" this year, a new primary appeared in her CT scan of left lung. Three weeks ago she had a wedge resection in her left lung -- fortunately the tumor was in the apex of the lung and could be removed. Her lymph nodes tested negative. One odd thing is that her nose is constantly running -- and it seems that this started with either the treatment or the pnemonectomy three years ago. Physically everything is fine -- heart function and all of that, I've tried to do some research but can't come up with anything. Any help would be appreciated.

I read your post and the best I could come up with is maybe she is allergic to something. I am a 2 time lung cancer surviver, different kinds of cancer once in each lung 31/2 yrs apart. My nose would run like I was getting a cold, and I would think that I was gonna be sick and sometimes I was, but most of the time I would be just fine in a few hours. I was finially tested for allergies and sure enough I'm allergic to everything that grows and blows.
I also have asthma now too. This is probably not your Moms problem but its a thought. Sounds like your Mom is doing well except for the runny nose so God Bless her.

Dear Betty, I had lung cancer three years ago and had my left lung removed. I don't remember my nose running and if it did it was probably considered part of the winter symptoms. Have you started and treatment or had surgery? Keep in touch and hang in there. Love ya

Hi Alyne, No I didn't have to have treatment either time, except the surgery, but I had mine in 1987 and 1991 so you see I'v been clean a long time, and I don't remember having any problem with my nose until a few yrs later. and like I said mine turned out to be allergys. Hey the good thing is you have only a couple more yrs and your Dr. will figure you are cured. Thats really a time to celebrate too, of course we used to celebrate every time I went to the Dr. and I got a good x-ray. I like celebrations. Ha. Please pray for our Son as he has just been diagonosed with an inoperable brain tumor. Its Glioblastoma which is a real nasty one, the Drs. only gave him 3 to 6 weeks based on their experience with this particular tumor. I pray that they are wrong and that a miracle will happen as he is our only child (48yrs old Friday) Has a family , 3 teenagers and Wife.
Just keep him in your prayers.
    Love ya to,
    Betty
