no treatment

hi-my name is bette-i am 68 this month-i had 1.9 ductal carcinaoma with intensive focal dcis underneath-very clean margins,had 22 nodes removed, all neg. i had lumpectomy and have refused all treatment due to age and harshness of the treatments and all the side effects. are there any others who have opted for no treatment. i do flaxseed oil and floressence and tofu daily and feel great. i was dx in nov 2000. would appreciate hearing from others who have not had any treatment. happy easter

    Hi Bette,
    Were you estrogen receptor positive? Did they recommend Tamoxifen? My friend was told by her oncologist to stay away from soy (a phytoestrogen). She had chemo, radiation and will go on Tamox. Soy has been quite a controversial topic at my support group. Many people think it will prevent cancer but it has estogenic properties. Further studies are still needed. Estrogen has also been put on the list of cancer causing substances.

    hi annepa-i decided this my self-drs are horrified that i will do none of their recommended treatments. the chemo dr. keeps insisting that i at least do radiation and tamoxifen. i told her,no thanks, i already had cancer, i dont want more. what stage was your moms cancer and how large was the tumor? did she do any dietary changes. good for her, whatever she did. i heard from friend of mine, a retired school teacher , who had br. cancer 6 yrs ago and had radiation, and now its back and shes going through chemotherapy, and is so worn out, i told her that i was doing none, and she says she wishes now that she hadnt done anything. some good books for everyone to read "Beating Cancer With Nutrition" by Patrick Quillin ,"Cancer Therapy-The Independent Consumers Guide to Non-Toxic Treatment and Prevention" by Ralph W. Moss, and "Options- The Alternative Cancer Therapy Book" by Richard Walters.Hope you and your mom continue to do fine. Bette

    Hi Margaret-Trying to catch up tonight. I was ER&PR Positive, and they recommended tamo and also chemo and radiation. As i told the other gals, i told them no thank you, i already had cancer. I have researched the soy, and most say that it is a weak estrogen, latches on to the cancer cells, and prevents the strong stuff from latching on. Its good for you, anyhow, good protein , compared to the hormone injected protein that we get from eating chicken and beef these days. i still eat some, but not as much as i did. i do eat a lot more vegs and fruit. and beans and grains, also do flaxseed w/cottage cheese and mixed up the essiac tea, which is the same thing as floressence.also, am trying to get more exercise. bette

    annepa-i am just trying to find others who decided on no treatment. i have found some, but i think that the people who are doing well, dont want to talk about cancer on a daily basis. did your mom opt for no treatment, and what else did she do? could you tell me a bit about what size tumor she had, and any node involvement? i talk with one gal who was dx with 2.5 tumor and 2 nodes involved, 10 yrs ago, and she is still fine, just changed her diet and goes dancing a lot. she had to look very hard to find a surgeon who would just take out the tumor, she had fna for the lymph nodes. let me know, would love to talk with you. i have about 5 women who are interested in and doing alternative treatments. bette
