Hi Everyone: We all know the first thought we have when we hear our diagnosis of cancer--is of death. I have a quote, and I do not know where it came from--but it helps me, and maybe it will help someone else:

"My life is but a weaving between my Lord and me, I cannot choose the colors....He worketh steadily...The dark threads are as needful in the Weaver's skillful hands as the threads of gold and silver in the pattern He has planned.'

It was explained to me that we are none given a 75 year guarantee when we are born. We cannot choose what way we shall die naturally; whether by cancer or car wreck or falling in the tub at home! We can choose how we are going to live today, and how we are going to face this challenge. We all say, 'why me'; 'it's not fair'; 'there's nothing I can do', etc. But I say, why not me - if God's work can be made manifest through me because I choose to pray to Him that if this is my duty - my purpose here- then so be it; but I beg him to please give me His strength, and love and enough courage to see this through. My son thought he had a whole lifetime ahead of him at the age of 18, but in a few seconds, he was gone in a car wreck. The Lord showed us through testimony that Matthew's mission here on earth was done, and he was needed back with God.
Cancer makes us stop and re-evaluate what life is all about--when under normal circumstances--we would have our priorities all wrong. I had one friend tell me that she thanked God for her cancer because without it; she would never have turned to Him and know the joy of His peace. Our journey here on earth is to prove ourselves worthy of heaven--so maybe it takes something horrible to get us on the right road. Maybe someday in Heaven when we are all rejoicing, many others will be thanking the Lord for their moment of truth while here; no matter the price they had to pay.

This is just my opinion--my hopes--my faith--and it works for me. I just wanted to share in case some of you might agree. We have free will--so everyone has their own opinions; I just pray whatever you believe, that it brings you the peace you need to cope with tragedies.

    Hi Brenda, that certainly is true I think. And you are right that everyone has the right to their own opinion. Through all of this I have definately felt God's presence in my life. I won't say I haven't been scared because I have. I think that is normal for all of us. I do believe that when it is your time to go God will decide when & how that happens. Sometimes it is hard to understand why things happen as they do but I think that all things happen for a reason. You just have to put your trust in God that he will see you through & give you the strength you need. Judy

    Dear Brenda,
    Thank you for sharing so eloquently. So many of us here on this site know the Lord has promised never to forsake us. It will be quite a joyous celebration to meet all these wonderful women and their loving families when we reunite in Heaven with our new (cancer free) bodies.

    thanks brenda for your wonderful words of faith...I too came to the conclusion" why not me?" altho this is definately not a ministry I would have chosen, if God can use this in my life to minister to others, then I accept that.
    I am starting a support group at my church focusing on God's specific pathway of healing for each of us...and have printed up your statement and story for our folders....I think it will bless others to see the peace God can bring in the midst of trouble..........lindy
