    ams 800

I had this device implanted on 12/19/2019. The urologist activated it on 2/20/2020. I had quite alot of pain and discomfort right from the start. Once it was activated the discomfort eased up. That's the good news. Bad news is when I went for a follow up last week due to some irritation they scoped me and said it needs to come out due to erosion of the urethera. Apparently due to the numerous radiation treatments I had the urethera was weakened and cannot handle the cuff. Having the new surgery to remove it 3/24/2020. Looks like I'm back to pads and pull ups......this really sucks..

    AMS800

I had the AMS800 implanted on 1/14/2020 and activated 2/26/2020.

The cuff gets somewhat sore and also the incision on the front right side. I was wondering if this was normal. I am back to a fairly normal life with very little leakage which is  wonderful, but am concerned the the sore cuff might be an indication of damage to the urethera. I have not done any bike or horseback riiding since the implant surgery.

    Soreness

I've had 2 AMS800 implants over the past 7+ years, and there is some residual soreness that can take up to 6 months to fully resolve.  Be patient, and relish in the new freedom and quality of life that the AMS800 have given to you, while you allow the healing process to complete.

    Soreness

Thanks for the response Josephg, always reassuring to hear if my recovery is on par with others.

    Soreness

    You are quite welcome, hrsrdr.

For me, the overall impact regarding initial soreness and time to fully heal was much more difficult for the AMS800 implant procedure than the original prostatectomy itself, even including the Foley catheter.

But, in the end, reclaiming a respectable quality of life, overcoming incontinence, made it all worth it.  If it had not, I would not have gone through the AMS800 implant surgery a second time.
