Coffee induced kidney sensation

ok. Rarely a coffee drinker but every once in a while I have a cup. Just had one and quickly after could “feel” my left kidney (the one with the mass). It didn’t hurt but it made me sit up and take notice. It lasted for about 4 or 5 min and then is slowly dissipating.

I’ve felt my kidneys randomly here and there since before diagnosis but also seem to be hyper aware if I feel anything back there these days  I’m sure that if I had felt this before the diagnosis, I would have noticed it too  not pain, just noticeable sensation.

Thoughts?

Once absorbed by the body and converted to what it can use, the waste goes thru the kidneys to be excreted.  Caffein is a diuretic (makes fluid go into the kidneys) so you can get rid of it.

Some people are more sensitive to the effects of a diuretic than others, and you may be either hyper sensitive or more aware of what's going on in that region due to the cancer Dx.

I'don't think it should concern you too much, unless you don't like the feeling.  Or you could just drop coffee, tee and cola's from your diet and solve the proble.

Good Luck.

I switched to decaf a while back on the suggestion of my cardiologist. We probably had a bad first week with it, but I've become used to it. After the neph surgery, I've had a normal reaction to it. Mostly for the taste now, and I've been able to go without coffee for a couple of days if needed.

I rarely drink coffee. This was a random time where I had it because I needed a push to get me through the work day. I was yawning all afternoon. I drink soda all too often but have nevwr felt that before u til with coffee.

If I do need a mid afternoon pickup, I'll try some tea. Normally I stop drinking coffee in the morning. Not an 'all day' coffee guy.

I will try that next time. I’m usually a soda guy. I know that’s just as bad and am looking to cut back.
