Has anyone been approached by CSN for a survey done by a research company wanting to know about our involvement with the boards. I've been selected to do a survey and said "yes" but now I'm wondering if this is for real. Let me know.
contacted by CSN via e-mail about the Carnegie Mellon survey, but decided to opt out. I don't like the idea of installing software allowing someone remote access to my computer, no matter for how short a time nor how reputable the requesting entity seems to be.
I did take the survey, which didn't seem to require any personal information other than age, ethnicity and gender posted by the Univ of Albany graduate student and contacted him with some questions about his survey via e-mail but haven't yet heard back. I notice his request has been removed.
I just heard back from Michael Verile, the Univeristy of Albany grad student. He has contacted the CSN forum admins and they are reviewing all his IRB information so maybe they will allow his survey back in at some point.
Yes the CSN team sent me an email. I think they did that to all of us. I decided not to join because I wasn't familiar with how it will work (don't know how to use those technology). That survey from the grad student from Albany--I took it. It was harmless. Just age and ethnicity required of personal data. The questions are all purely based on emotional stability.
I've decided to do it because they said they would interview me by phone. If they require downloading software then I'll decline the rest of the interview. I'll let you know how it goes.

I also chose not to participate and for the same reason.
So yes, I do believe it is on the up and up, but no, I am not going to participate.
