Same side foot discoloration/dryness

Has anyone had a nephrectomy and experienced same side foot discoloration and drynes?  Our son (4yrs old) has had these symptoms since the first week of his surgery.  We are now 3 months post surger and still have the symptoms.

    No

I didn't experience anything like that. I've also not seen anything on the board here over the past 5 years where people have discussed having this issue related to a nephrectomy. If your doc doesn't have an explanation I'd look for another opinion (and I'd suggest going for as independent as possible for that second opinion, definitely stay away from the doc's colleagues or the same group). Also, I wouldn't wait long to get that second opinion.

Was it a radical nephrectomy? Why did your 4-yo son have to have a nephrectomy? Who did it? Was it a urologist? Urologic oncologist? Pediatric surgeon? Anyways, I'd try to get another opinion hopefully from a specialist unrelated to whoever did the surgery.

    Best to you,

    Todd

Ummm. I lost my big toe nail

Ummm. I lost my big toe nail on the same side as I had my surgery. It started to get discoloured soon after the surgery and then most of it fell off lol. I know it sounds funny, but it did!!

    Vince has wilms tumor.  Rare

Vince has wilms tumor.  Rare type of adolescent cancer.  He had a 2.5lb tumor on his kidney.  I noticed it within 24hours of surgery. Even after lotioning him ritually after showers his foot is dry the very next day. It’s only his left foot (left kidney removed).  It was not radical I’d say.  He had to have it removed so I don’t feel it was radical. It was a pediatric surgeon who performed the surger.  We are actually still on the hospital now.  I asked our floor oncologist about it and she did not have an answer.  The discoloration is very mild but noticeabl.  I will take your advice and see another doctor back home.  Thank you and best regards.

    Radical vs Partial

Radical nephrectomy means the entire kidney was removed. Partial means only part of it. I was asking if the entire kidney was removed.

Maybe some other can chime in if they had problems. What color is the foot? You should ask his surgeon to have a look. Not the oncologist. Have him look soon. If there was an issue with the surgery you want to surgeon to know about it soon.

I hope he heals up soon. Wishing you all the best,

    Todd

    Nothing useful to say about

Nothing useful to say about discoloration and dryness, but I just want to wish your son speedy recovery and good health! I've heard that Wilms tumors are very treatable now.

Hugs to you and your son!
