Was this for when you had a recurrance? I talk to the oncologist on Tues. She wants me to take with the external radiation. I only had brachy with the 3 carbo/toxol and now have 2 tiny lesions just below where the brachy was before. SO now 5 weeks of external and 5 more brachy. So, wondering what to do.
Yes it was for the recurrence. I can't say that it made any difference one way or the other; it didn't seem to cause any additional side effects that I could tell.
I had 2 rounds of Cisplatin concurrent with 28 external rounds of radiation. This was followed by 4 rounds carbo/taxol. As far as results, NED for two years from stage IIIC1 high grade mixed UPSC/EAC.
Thanks derMaus and ncg007. I will listen carefully on Tues. to the oncologist as she tells me about ciaplatin. Does this cause hair loss ? Start radiation March 7!
I had Cisplatin, but only one time. I'd developed an allergy to Carboplatin after having it in 2010 and again last year for a total of 11 times when I developed the allergy. In 2010, I had Carboplatin and Taxol. Last year, I had Carboplatin and Gemzar. I only had one round of chemo to go when I had the allergic reaction. The doctor gave me Cisplatin and Gemzar for the last round and I had no problems with the Cisplatin. I have been NED since then.
Cisplatin was one of the chemos I had. That was eight years ago now. I'm sorry, I cannot distinguish what affected me, as I had chemo and radiation simultaneously. I was and am very glad they had ways to treat my cancer.
My wife just completed 6 months of Cispaltin and Gemzar. Other than low platelet counts she did very well on it. Since it was a combo chemo it is hard to say which one was to blame for the low counts. The key is to make sure they (and you) pay close attention to your blood tests.

Yes it affects hearing
My hearing was affected by Cisplatin. The effects wore off a couple of months after treatment ended and haven't recurred.
