Update from 3 month appt w/Gyn-Onc

Hi everyone. I wanted to share some good news that I had my last 3 month follow-up appointment with my gyn-onc on Tuesday, Oct 3rd and have graduated up to every 6 months! My next appointment is in April 2018 - it seems so far away! I'll be getting my port removed ("de-ported") next month.

I'm trying not to jinx myself but it really feels like this whole ordeal is finally starting to come to an end. :)

    Yippee!!

Glad to hear the good news!

    Hugs!

    Kathy

So happy for you! I just started on the 3 month cycle for 2 years, and will have my port until May 2019. I love hearing when others are progressing well like you!

    That sounds great! Very happy

That sounds great! Very happy that everything seems to be going well for you! :) On one hand, it's great news that you've graduated from 3 to 6 month appointments because that means your chances of recurrence are slimmer, but on the other hand, on my part, I would feel anxious and insecure about the further apart appointments too. Maybe it's just me. :) My mom is getting a CT scan plus her checkup in December but I'm already feeling anxious because her last scan was before she even finished her treatment!

Either way, I am glad for you and sincerely wish you the best!

    Love,
    Rebecca

That is wonderful news Kim. I am happy for you regarding your Pet/CAT Scan. You have to be so relieved, that's for sure.

Regarding Hurricane Irma, glad to hear that you are getting power, I have family and friends that live in FL.  My friends lost electricity for 1 day. I have a first cousin that lives in Ft. Myers, and luckily she had no serious damage to the condo she lives in. She was able to live with her daughter for a couple of weeks in North Carolina so glad she left FL and was in a much safer place. I have another first cousin in Clermont (near Orlando) she came back East to spend time with one of my other first cousins.

    Cheerful

    Yaaay!!

That's wonderful Kvdyson.  Hope is one of the best tools we have.  So when appointments are every three or six months, does that usually mean a Pet Scan every 3 months too and then six months.  The way I understand it, there is no way to tell if the cancer is gone or progressing with endo carcinosarcoma cancer, except for the pet scan?

    PET Scans

Most insurances won't cover periodic PET scans to watch for recurrence (they're more expensive that CATs), so it's more likely that you'll have periodic CAT scans following front line treatment. I think they allow the PET scan before surgery to help the surgeon determine how far he needs to go with what gets removed for testing, but that's where they draw the line.

MY gyn onc has me on an every 3 month check-up schedule the first two years, followed by every 4 months the 3rd year, every 6 months the 4th year and then annually after that. Right now he's alternating CAT scans with Chest Xrays for each check-up besides the lab work. I won't be surprised if he cuts back on the CATs during this 2nd year because they do expose you to a lot more radiation than a chest xray does and if one is going to have a recurrence, odds are that it will show up in the lungs first.

I was asked this week if I wanted my port out, but I'm going to keep it. I'm high risk for recurrence, so I'm not quite confident to take it out yet. I've heard that it's harder to re-insert later because of scar tissue and I'm hardly aware of it, so I'm leaving it in as long as they'll let me. I'm kind of supersticious that taking it out will somehow jinx me! It seems as time progresses I get more and more anxious about a recurrence even though all is going well so far. It's always such a relief for awhile after each good check-up.

No, it'll just be a physical

No, it'll just be a physical exam unless I report symptoms that indicate a scan is necessary. The PET scans I had were only due to the mass in my chest that they've decided is benign.
