Hello, I had a 7mm nodule that I had a scan on 3 months later and it grew to 11mms, and I had to have it removed and at that time it was biopsied and I was diagnosed with Stage 1A lung cancer. Now if it hadn't grown then nothing but quarterly scans would have been done.

Anything under 3cms is considered a nodule and some people have calcified nodules in their lungs forever, just part of the aging process. I would imagine they will moniter you to see if it grows, now if it does they would probably want to take out, and if it does'nt they will just scan you every 3 to 4 months for the next year. Your pulmonary dr will fill you in on the rest.

    I wish you well. Lori

    Thanks Lori
I appreciate info Lori. I guess in 2008 It was found on a Cat scan but I was never told about it and at that time it was 5mm. Now I was admitted to hospital for facial cellulitis and an unknown rash on my neck. They did a neck CT scan and it was found then and because it grew to 8mm they decided to tell me about it and send me to a pulmonary doctor. I was kind of upset I was never told about it before and even when I was in hospital they never told me. I went to my primary doctor for a hospital follow up and he then told me and sent me for a cull chest CT scan. I am a pipe smoker for over 50 years and have had alot of unexplained weight loss the past 2 years also.

Well from 5mm to 8mm in 2 years is really not a lot of growth. Hopefully it will just be something they will have to moniter that it doesn't keep growing. Now remember if it had to come out it is still very small and at this size if it were a cancer, you wouldn't need chemo or radiation in most circumstances, and is at a curable stage. I just had the vats and was back at work within 4 weeks with no restrictions. I know its hard not to worry, but I hope after your appointment, you will feel better about the situation. Lori

Thanks again. I guess my doctor was more worried because it is not smooth shape and they have looked for every reason why i am loosing the weight and felt that this would explain it. Also the facial swelling and rash I had was on the same side. Who knows what these doctors think but all I know is I'm worried sick about it

    lung cancer

hi, I had my middle right lung lobe removed due to cancer. The nodules in lower rt and lt lobes that had never done anything have grown one from 6.1 to 9.2 and the other 7.1 to 9. Mm and a new one has appeared all in three months since my surgery. I have to go for another ct in Dec. And if they have grown more I have set mind on chemo and radiation while still strong enough to fight this. Am I rich to believe it is cancer still and to start fighting it right away?

You are wise to take the

You are wise to take the offensive.  The earlier to address the cancer the better.  That said its not cancer until a biopsy says its cancer.  The nodules are relatively small yet and watching them for 3 more months is a good thing.  90% of the nodules resolve themselves.  As winter approaches, we spend more time indoors and we find molds in greater quantities they can affect or cause nodules too.

small lung nodules, double in size in 72 days WORRIED

Small nodules were found in both of my lungs in March. 3mm to 8mm in size. Had another scan in june and the nodules double in size with the 8mm staying the same.  Family Dr wants to wait 6 months for another scan to see if they grow anymore?????  I'm a non-smoker 55 yo.  Any advice would be appreciated.

I would ask for a referral to an oncologist

My advice, based on my experience, don't wait. See an oncologist. You really don't want the nodules to grow if they are cancer.  If not, no harm done. For your peace of mind, have it checked out.

Hello I had a 7mm and upon rescan in 2 months found it grew to 1.1 cm, at that time it had to come out.  I had vats on 9-23-10 to remove lower right lobe.  So far so good.  I wouldn't wait 6 months, i would wait 2 then go from there.  Its interesting that the 8mm didn't change in size and a good thing.  I had a nodule 4mm found in left lung and upon rescan 3 months later it was gone.  Sometimes they come and go, if theres an infection.  I wish you well. 08. Found out I had a lung

    08. Found out I had a lung disease with a 1mm nodulein my right lung.

    10. I had Stage 3 testicular cancerthat spread into mylymph nodes in my stomach. Cancer free since Feb 2011 but Dr said that if it did come back, it would go to my lungs first, then possibly the brain.

    17. Had a CT Scan, found the 1mm nodule grew to 8mm and I have a 1.7cm lymphnode in my upper abdomin.

I see a new oncologist Wed. Aug 9th.  Should I be worried???
