Le sigh. Blood in stool. Ugh. That's all.

I have an ostomy.  Hopefully just a blockage or some random thing that caused bleeding.  Let's just say I'm a little bit upset at the moment.  I had excruciating pain last week, pain this week.  I figured it was something I ate because I had cream cheese last week and cereal with milk this week and maybe it is. I know there is no point in worrying and yet it was instant stress.  Argh.  I so hate cancer.  I'm at the 3.4 year clean mark.  Fingers crossed.

The fear, its always going to haunt us

Chances are your diet is playing havoc with you, but your mind will run along its own path, and you will worry until you get it sorted.

We will never be free from this worry, and these scary episodes do not help.

Will pray, send good vibes, swing chickens, think of you, any or all of the above, until you report that all is well.

    Helen, hoping to hear good

Helen, hoping to hear good news soon. I too know what you are feeling. I wish we didn't have the worries. Dealing with the treatments and blood tests and scans...  thats enough... unfortunately the worries are yet another dimension of this battle. Even though we know that the worries won't change the future...  It is what it is...  And it just may be a wonderful future... In spite of the worries!

Helen, I'll say a prayer for

Helen, I'll say a prayer for you tonight that it's nothing. I get blood in my bag, urine, and the mucus that I still get even with the illeostomy. It's never been anything. I'm on blood thinners so it's explained by that, according to the doctors, but I had it a couple of times before I was on them as well. I've also had a couple of episodes where I've had what they think is a partial blockage or something attempting to block. It's pretty painful. I hope that's all you have.

Me too thanks. Doc on call

Me too thanks. Doc on call said I need to come in and not wait until tomorrow since this has been happening technically sinceast week. On my way to ER. I'm pretty confident that its just food related but there's that little voice. Of course if I listenwd to the voices in my head, they could make a movie of the week about me. Lol

    Dear Helen,

You know our situation is basically identical. I often have a small amount of blood around the stoma are and sometimes it looks like it's coming from the inside. It freaks me out too, but we have to understand that the stone gets injured easily because it's an artificial outlet.

Cancer messes up our minds. Every little pain, bump, noise is scary and you think of recurrence right away. Actually I'm surprised that most of us can live and function with this amount and constant anxiety. We are the toughest group of people in the world I'm telling you.

Of course if this problem continues, have it checked out.

    Wish you all the best,

    Laz

I thought of that too so I

I thought of that too so I blocked it from touching the outsid . It's definitely interna and has to so with the pain. l. I'm not really super concerned. I'm guessing I got a little too liberal with my diet. I just hate the underworry. Its there. I. Trying to ignore it.

Best of luck with the check up. Things don't get any easier with time. My liver functionns doubled twice in a month and my legs and lungs filled with fluid. I have been restricted to a litre of fluid a day and double diuretics. I had an ultrasound of my herat looking for congestive heart failure and an ultrasound of my liver pancreas and kidneys looking for malignancies cirrosis and auto-immune hep. Some heart issues but no chf, liver pancreas and kidneys ok , my type two diabetes is well controlled as is the nephrotic syndrome of the kidneys. My docs do not have the faintest Idea why I am filling with fluid. I think it is auto immune inflammation. My neph has put me on prednisone again , for a short time he said but he gave me a script for sixty pills and three repeats. Funny things happen all the time to we survivors. Try not to worry too much, honestly we don't get that lucky we have lots of years of suffering to get thru yet. Hugs Ron.

Nephrotic range proteinuria is about 3.5 Gm.

A 24 hr urine collection is sometimes done to assess this.

Do you know what your serum Albumin is running ?

If it gets too low you can lose oncotic pressure and fluid will leak out of the circulation.

Unfortunately Prednisone to treat you can also cause fluid retention.

    Just a few thoughts.

    Steve.

Please Get checked to be sure, particularly with having pain (that preceeded ?) the blood. There are other causes as  well as the obvious.

    Hi GSP2

During my last flare my protein loss went over 7 grams a day. I have been on cyclosporine twice a day for two years. I have had 3 kidney biopsies over the years and the results don't relate to any of the known kidney diseases . My nephrologist believes it may have been one of the chemo agents ( levamisole) I had for stage three colon cancer over 18 years ago. The cyclosporine is maintaining my protein loss at around a gramm a day. I spent nearly two years on 75 mg daily of prednisone for what my first nephrologist assumed was minimal change disease. It wasn't and my protein loss rose. All it did was put me into type two diabetes and osteo-penia. The two week dose of pred is to try and drop my liver functions and ease a little bit of the pain , there are not many options for pain relief with my kidneys . I have been on 80mg daily of targin (80mg oxycodone//40mg naloxone) for over 2 years I have just spent the past 34 weeks tapering to get off it because it stopped working for me. I have severe peripheral neuropathy of both legs and left hand. I have tried lyrica, neurontin, endep, norspan and fentanyl patches as well as the oxy. Nothing works except NSAIDS and they are like kryptonite to my kidneys. Surviviving survival is not always easy. Ron.
