    Advice

Like you I have been recently diagnosed and awaiting surgery.  It is a lot to absorb and at first there is a sense of disbelief.  Last month after a ct scan for a kidney stone; a doctor told me I had a tumor on my kidney, the first thing that crossed my mind was: "Are you talking to me?" He went on to explain what the next steps would be. But it was really background noise I was just absorbing the fact I had cancer. I remember asking him if I would have a biopsy to confirm it and he said that was what he was just explaining to me.  I realized that I needed to bring my wife with me for any future meetings to get all the information.  She had a stake in this too and like they say two heads are better than one.

Jason.2835 has a great blog where he describes how he felt when he was first diagnosed. Jason relates how you feel that you are somehow to blame for getting cancer. I felt that guilt too but until I saw it in the blog I didn't realize it.  The fact is  none of us are to blame and we have to do what is best to get through this.  You have to trust the science and your doctors to provide the best advice and treatment.  The tumor is there and has to be removed.  It is hard to think that we are lucky but if it hadn't been discovered at this point, the cancer could have spread and treatment would be far more: complex, and the results less certain.  I have gained a great deal of strength from posting on this board and getting advice and ideas in return and have come up with notion that these people made it through and so can I.

    Hi

You and I have one thing in common,  that was about the size of my tumor when found on MRI.  I seen urologist and surgery scheduled for Aug 26 2012 and I had a partial nephrectomy, only part of kidney taken.  Its a while getting over the surgery, I suppose age has a little factor lol.  I done fine.  Was in hospital for 3 days.  I like you was very scared when I found out I had cancer and this is where I came too for comfort, encouragement, and just to relieve that stress that weighs so heavily on your mind til you get to talk to your doc.  Your tumor is small and you should have a good outcome .  Praying for you.

Max, so glad it's over. Are you sure it was stage 2 and grade 1 and not the other way around? Stage 1 and grade 2? It's a very small tumor so it should be a stage 1. In any case, hope you're feeling ok and recovering well. Keep us posted! Best to you and your family.

Stage 1 is small (less than 7

Stage 1 is small (less than 7 cm) and limited to the kidney. So being stage 1 is good! Grade refers to how closely the cancer cells resemble normal kidney cells, with 1 = most like kidney cells and 4 = least like them. Stage 1 and grade 2 is good. While none of us are able to predict the future, statistically you have an excellent chance that the surgery was the end of your troubles. And I sincerely hope so Smile

Hope you are recovering well Max.  I was in the same boat you are in now just 1 month ago.  Seems like forever ago now.

The recovery (for me) started pretty slowly, but gets quicker every day.  Just take them one day at a time.

God bless you and take care.
