I have been in a pretty bad way recently so I was not expecting my blood work to be in good shape. It was a big surprise to find everything from my Bilirubine, Creatinine and Liver Enzymes all to be in the normal range!!! Also my Oncologist has been giving me a hard time for ages in my refusing to take medication for my Hypothyroid problem. Surprise, surprise it is now back to 4.04 mUI/1 which is .04 over normal range, how crazy is that. Obviously Votrient and I are on better terms at the moment, long may it continue on the 800mg. Just need to be able to take leave of the bathroom for a while and I will be a very happy camper:) |

Excellent!!!
DJ, what wonderful news and an early Christmas gift.
my husband finally went to a nephrologist who did a full (and, I ,aen full) blood test that I have been combing through
the creatinine was higher (1.68) so the radiologist did not want to use contrast and would not do scans without it,
when the order reads "with and without contrast), why could they not have done the without part???
but today it is your good news that this is about

Hubby's Scan!
Hi Sarah, that's a bummer what does the Oncologist have to say? I agree about the scan, if they could do the first option at least you would have some information far better than none at all. I was given just half the contrast one time because my creatinine was a little out of whack. Could they not put your husband on saline the day before for maximum hydration. That's one thing my Oncologist is hot on the previous day I have to drink at least three litres of water, then a litre before the scan and two afterwards. Is that how it works in the States?

Contrast
my husband's oncologist ordered scans without the contrast and read them himself; they were clean. Now, it's 5 months

Way to go Djinnie
So glad to read your good news on blood work. I have been reading your recent posts and saw that you were going through a bad patch. You were so very kind to me with your help at the beginning of my journey along this route and I will always be grateful for that. So I will be thinking of you over the Christmas period as always and hoping that you are able to spend as little time in the bathroom as possible. Enjoy!!

Scottie good to hear from you!
Thank you for all those lovely comments ladies and gents, that's very kind of you!
Scottie my friend how nice to hear from you, it's been a while. I often think of you how are you doing? Do you have family coming over for Christmas? it's seems so long since we last talked about that doesn't it? My daughter Emma is coming over from New York, this will be the first Christmas we have shared in 4 years. It's going to be great I miss her so much, we are pulling out all the stops when it comes to Christmas decorations this year. When we lived in Texas we bought masses of decorations and my husband has adorned the outside of the house with the teardrop lights, reindeer and Santa for the first time. Christmas is very low key here, at night the only lights are the stars. When we turn these on the village will have a fit, they will think we have gone seriously doolally! We will probably have the Mayor round within a few days, lol, Still it will be fun:)
I am hoping to stay out of the bathroom as much as possible. My husband thinks I should make better use of my time in there and start the retiling, save him doing it after Christmas, cheeky bugger!
I hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas, and all the best for the New Year:)

Thanks Melissa!
Thanks Melissa,
I must admit to being a little gob smacked by those results, especially the Thyroid. I would have liked to have been a fly on the wall in Dr War's office when they turned up on her desk. I don't know how many times she told me that my Thyroid won't improve. We had quite a few exasperated discussions over those meds. Just hope it stays functioning on a full tank now!
I can't wait for Christmas, the wonderful aroma from the cloved oranges, and the mulled wine always sets my taste buds off. I have made my mince pies and Christmas pudding a good slice of which has my name on.
My cough appears to be less persistent which is promising!! and last night I made some progress with mashed potatoes and creamed soup, although I don't want to say too much and put the mockers on it. But I am feeling more hopeful that I won't be banished from the table come Christmas Day, lol!
Melissa I wish you, Greg and the family a wonderful Christmas and a better, brighter New year:)

Apny you were right about mashed potatoes, it is fast becoming my food of choice, I have had a second meal tonight and everything is cosy so far!! Surprising how a bowl of ingested mashed potato can invoke such excitement. I won't be able to contain myself once I manage a piece of fish!

Again, congrats
But your Q. on hydration. Other than my first CT to confirm DX, which was without contrast, all my CT's have been done with a pre and post hydration. I have a liter of solution dripped in beginning about 2 hours prior to the test (with the wonderful barium sulfate chaser starting an hour prior). Then after the CT with contrast, I have the second liter.
And once upon a time, Oregon was a Territory, but we are part of the United States, now. Thus far, there has only been one time that the Onc. deferred the CT for 3 months when the Creatanine/eGFR rates were slightly skewed.
I hope you have a wonderful, fabulous, fantastic holiday. And I be that if someone made a pumpkin pie with sweetened, condensed milk, it would go down smoothly.
And don't let hubby fall off the roof while decorating!

DJ, glad to hear the good
DJ, glad to hear the good news! It is about time, right? ;) The same thing happened with my mom. When she first started Votrient her thyroid was underactive after the first few months. She did take a thyroid pill or two, but felt worse! She stopped taking it, then a few blood tests down the road her thyroid was up and running fine again. I am happy you got good news, now take some immodium and stay out of the lu! LOL Hugs and kisses and plenty of prayers and good thoughts your way!

Just a quick note to wish you and all your family the very best for Christmas. How wonderful to have your daughter visit, you will have such a great time. Family is everything! My sons won't be with us this year, I visited in September, probably enough for them, but we will be doing the FaceTime bit.
Love your husband's and your sense of humor, keeps everythig in perspective. I remember one Christmas many years ago when my sons were little, my husband had dental work done, perfect timing, and I put his turkey through the food processor. You have no idea what a mound of turkey comes from 2 slices. We all just cracked up laughing.
Have a wonderful Christmas and we all look forward to better times in 2015.
Greetings from across the pond.
