First day of chemo over!!

First day went ok. I was in a bed which was nice since the session lasted over 9 hours. I had some minor alergic reactions that were dealt with and a little nausea that night. But I'm at work today!! Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers. They work!! I have a prayer list too. If any of you need prayer, send me a message. I know I'm at the bottom of a mountain, and it will be brutal, but I have super support. It's like when u go for a run and there is a big hill and u charge at the bottom and it's tough even after u get to the top. You just can't stop. The best is when u are half way up and someone yells support. You actually pick up the pace and mentally feel better. That's how I feel when I hear support from all of u. I hope to do the same!! I put more on my blog which is at www.olympiajeff148.blogspot.com

    Yay!

    First chemo. Done.

And now you no longer have that nagging fear of the unknown. You did it and everything turned out fine. Way to go!!

I'm sure you have been told about your Nadir--the low point in your blood counts, which comes in a week or two, depending on the particular drugs. Please make sure to protect yourself from infections by mindful hand washing and avoiding anyone who seems sick (sneezing or coughing, etc.) especially since you are back at work. Pay attention to your body, especially elevated temperatures, and report to your doctor as advised.

I am following your blog through my reader. Smile

Big hugs to you. . .

Good for you.  Like Roquie says, now that you conquered your first chemo, you won't have as much anxiety.  I'm keeping up with your blog also and am jealous you got lunch and dinner.  Bill only gets lunch and one time we were there over 10 hours.  I had to go out for Jimboys tacos, it was the healthiest thing I could think of Laughing.  You've got a great attitude, you will do fine, I'm sure.  Looks like you have a sweet caregiver.

    Way to Go!

Way to go Jeff!  Having that first one under your belt is great.  I always found that I felt a bit more tired on the third and fourth day after chemo. Like the others said, lots of hand washing (carry hand sanitizer with you) and try to avoid people who are sick.  I continued to work too and never experienced any illnesses, even though my white counts were poor.

You have an awesome attitude and that will be a huge help if the going gets tough!!! I'm going to check out your blog and follow it too!  I'm glad that you have some awesome support!

    I love tacos!

Normally I love all food. Not so sure after chemo. It could ruin tacos for me. Thanks for the kind words!!! Hope all is well with you and Bill.

I did six cycles of ABVD (12 treatments).

One other piece of advice. . . . they recommend that you don't eat your favourite foods around the time of treatment as sometimes you can be put off of them.   My first treatment I had a big bowl of ramen noodles when I got home thinking it would be nice and soothing on my stomach.  I can still taste the funky taste when I think about it and I still haven't been able to eat them.  That was almost two years ago. I agree with you 100% that prayer works- I was diagnosed with 4th stage lymphoma in 2011 and almost immediately my church started prayer for my recovery. It was not an easy journey, having a terrible staph infection complicated by 16 days in the hospital for c-diff,and blood clots in both legs, but praise God I'm now two years in remission having only blood tests every three months and blood thinner for the clots. Attitude means so much in fighting this disease and having faith that God's in control. Take each day as it comes, always taking precaution's at work-keeping healthy by eating nothing but good foods and following your doctor's advice. You will overcome, just trust and travel your journey with God by your side- He will never leave nor forsake you. God bless my brother- Steve

    "4"

    Jeff,

You must be Stage 1 or 2 if you are getting 4 infusions  -- a good thing.  Aaron, Bill-NC, Sur, and I were all Stage 3, which requires 12 infusions.

You will knock it out in no time, and since side-effects are usually linked to dose, hopefully you will have few of them. You will be back at Taco Bell before you know it !

    First treatment...

    Hi Jeff,

Sorry for the late reply, but we've been making a big move to the river, so it's been kind of hectic. I'm so happy your first time is behind you and all went fairly well. Chemo is no walk in the park, but it is doable! You hang in there and share back how you are doing as your treatments progress. Chemo(all types) have a cumulative effect, so as each treatment passes you may feel more run down. Just listen to your body. Best wishes...Sue
