Good Morning Ladies

I am curious about somnething -  What are your schedules for seeing your doc?  How often do you go?

I am nearly 2 years out of chemo and feeling great.  Last April when I met with my Onc for a 3 month ck up she told me I had made it through the first year and graduated up a level.  She said I would see her twice a year and my gyno twice a year instead of her every 3 months.  Now that I have moved I have new doctors.  My new onc  said since I am seeing a doc every 3 mons he wants to see me except for my yearly visit with my gyno for my ck up.

My question is when do start seeing a doc less?  I am almost two years out.  I am going to talk to my onc when I go in April for my visit.  It would be so nice to to have to stress every 3 months.  Even if I got to the point where i go every 4 months.

Just wondering what other docs are having their patients do now that they are a couple years out of chemo

    Hello!

    I'm so happy that you are cancer free at the 2 year or so mark!  In terms of doctor visits, I can't remember exactly when, but the progression with my gyn-onc was this:  At first, every 3 months, then every 4 months, then every 6 months.  It must have been around 2-3 years from my historectomy that he let me go every 4 months, then at around 4 years he let me go every 6 months.  Now, at 5 years out, he is still afraid to let me go once a year, so he still has me at every 6 months. 

    I only go to my gyn-onc for my gynecologic stuff.  I do not see a regular gynecologist.  I feel it is redundant and I dislike going to doctors any more than I have to, so I cut them loose wherever possible.  (actually, when I think about it, the regular gynecologist cut ME loose telling me that follow up for a cancer patient wasn't his territory.)

    Do you see a gyn/onc?

    I go to my gyn/onc every 3 months, but left my regular gyn once I was diagnosed in August of 2011. I have no reason to go back, no pap needed (no cervix) and the gyn/onc does a pelvic exam every time. I started to go every 4 months, then my ca125 began to rise bit by bit, so I'm back to every 3. I go back at the end of March and just hope/pray that my ca125 doesnt rise again as I will have to have another CT scan at that point to confirm a reccurrence ;-(.

    If you see a regular oncologist for your ovarian, maybe that is why you see them both?

    After my chemo ended in March 2011, I saw my oncologist every three months for CA 125.  In February 2013, my oncologist said I could start seeing him every six months, because I had hit the two year mark of living with NED (no evidence of disease).  I'm still seeing him every six months.  I still see my gyn/oncology surgeon every six months for the "poke and prod" exam; that schedule has not changed since my chemo ended.

    My doc is a gynelogical

    My doc is a gynelogical oncologist.  I have the poke and prod exam everytime I go.  He said I can see my reg gyno once a year for my exam...  Why?  She is going to do the same thing he does.  I am going to ask him what the point is because IF anything arises and the gyno has a concern she is going to send me to him anyway right???

    Interesting....

    I actually have never had a regular gyno.  Once a year, I see my primary physician or sometimes a physician's assistant for my annual exam.  They press down on my abdomen area, listen to my lungs and breathing, do a breast exam and write up my blood work order (for cholersterol, triglycerides, etc.) and my paperwork to get my annual screening mammogram and listen to any health concerns from me.  Oh, last year I was due for a tetanus shot, so I got that too at my annual.   That's about the extent of it, so I feel my six-month "poke and prod" exams with my gyn-onc surgeon are very important.
