    One thing I told visitors:

One thing I told visitors:   Don't make me laugh.

Make sure you have a pillow to hug, both in the hospital and home.   Even when walking in the hospital corridors, I had that pillow against my tummy.

Forgot to add, that i used

Forgot to add, that i used ICE for pain/swelling. I remember the RNs face when I asked for ice. She said, but you have pain pills? Finally, the PT therapist got me ice cubes. Bring immediate relief.

Also, I wore this lumbar velcro wrap (you can get at any drug store) to support my sore muscles. I asked the surgeon and he said it was fine. I used this wrap for my 1st laproscopic surgery too. I wore it at home and even to bed, so when I would get up I had support.

Trust me, I had little to no major pain. The incisions are small, about an inch, and the larger one (to remove the kidney) was about 2.5 inches. It was the only one that offered some discomfort. I used the a dry ice block inside the wrap and never used any pain pill once home. That ice block did the trick, reduced the swelling which reduced any discomfort.

BUT you need to get your iron levels checked. You'll be more tired, esp if you DO use narcotics for pain. I finally demanded that they check my iron levels, took their time, and learned yes, as I suspected I was anemic. Being deficient in iron makes you more fatigued.

Eat healthy, rest, rest, rest. And unlike others, TELL your HUBBY what you need. Do not expect him to read your mind. LOL

    It will be okay..

I won't tell you my weight

I won't tell you my weight story, it will p** you off... seems like guys lose weight with the surgery.. women, well not so much.. ooops..  But Diana.. no way will it be as bad as you described that baby delivery story...  You most likely have a choice on pain drugs.. epidural or a pump with a button.  I can not tell you which is better, but I opted for the pump.  The first two days were the worst, BUT and I mean BUT, I had a HUGE surgery...  My tumor was super big and the Cancer was in my Renal Vein...  I got the major incision.. which you will not have.  Sounds like you will ge the petite version incision.  Heck you may not even need the extra pillow... There have been a couple of people that stated "what pain..?" as they had almost none.  Hope you are in that category.!

I know it is stressful... trust me I know..!  But the fear was far worse than the reality..!  Even though I had a big surgery, I was so glad the deed was done..!!

Can't wait to hear your story once it is over and you are home again...

    ICE

My worst moment (after getting weighed) was throwing up twice a few hours after the surgery. That really hurt - and of coure I was worried about blowing a gasket or something!

I think the ice is a fabulous idea! I was on morphine the first 24 hours - and it did nothing. Finally they gave me dilaudin the 2nd night and it was marvellous but that was short lived - 12 hours. Then I was on to tylenol 3 tablets....another useless one. I think dry ice would have been a great alternative. Jan - since you used the ice, I am curious if you have the typical bulge? I wonder if the ice applied at that time would alleviate that?

And Foxy!! Sounds like you are kinda making excuses! lol...you know there is more than vacuuming to do. Scrub the toilets and see how happy she will be! I ended up getting a cleaning lady - it solved most of that problem.

That reminds me of a joke.

Two women were sitting in a restaurant. One of them locked eyes with the most gorgeous man across the room. He came over to her and said "I could not help but notice that you were watching me from across the room. Do you find me attractive?" She nodded yes. "Well," he said "I am in need of some money....for $100 I would be willing to do whatever you like, if you can express what you want in three words or less." The woman smiled, reached into her purse and pulled out $100; She took his hand and placed the money there. Then she licked her lips and slowly smiled and said: "Clean my house."

    Weight

Yeah, yeah, Ron. I know it is the typical story. You guys are so lucky! I know that Fox had about the same sized tumor as me and lost 8 inces around his waist. I was thrilled to have lost almost 4 inches.

However, there is a new study has found that women with large butts live longer than men who mention it.Undecided

JoJo, you do crack me up!!

JoJo, you do crack me up!! Thx for the laugh.

Agree, the best aphrodesiac is do a chore around the house without being asked !

And yes, ICE really helped the pain and swelling. No other med worked. In fact I had a horrible 8 days of hallucinations, loss of memory, confusion=embarrassing!!

The hallucinations were fun, esp the one where a guy all in black was reaching over my end table next to my bed to hand me my eye drops!! hehehee And the pretty lights on the ceiling fan..what a trip!

I know NSAIDs would've helped, but cannot take them.

I don't have the bulge and would assume that comes from muscles shifting into a new place? Is that farfetched?

But kept ice block (plastic dry ice thingy) inside my velcro wrap. It truly helped. I could walk around and it stayed in place.

My daughter in law just had her 2nd C section (my 9th grandbaby, a girl!!) and she is using ice too, stating she is not using any pain pills because she is nursing. She's doing fine with the ice only treatment.

    Be well.. my friend,
