Question from Poland - non small cell cancer 3B

Dear All,

I decided to register at the CSN as I'm desperately looking for the most effective treatment for my mum. Last  week she was diagnosed with the non small cell cancer and since then our battle began. The doctors said it is the 3b stage and my mum should quickly start the treatment. The point is we are not sure if Polish system can offer us the best chemiotherapy programmes. I have found on one of the forums lady who had undergone such a medical treatment:

"Avastin, Carboplatin and Taxol. Three weeks on, one week off for 3 months.  Also Zometa every month for the bone mets.   After that I started Tarceva and have since switched to Xegeva for  my bones.   I added an exercise program through Strides for Strength, designed for cancer patients, and holistic treatmenst and acupuncture as well."

but when I consulted that idea with oncologist, he said it is not a standard of treatment. Could you please advice on any treatment that was in your cases successful? I've read about vaccinations, L-DOS37, and gene therepy. The time passes by and we need to find the best solution for my mum.

all the best,

Agnieszka

    My first-line treatment for 3B ...

... was Cisplatin and Etoposide with concurrent radiation. Results were good and lasted about two years without recurrence. After that, I was luckily able to go on Xalkori (targeted biologic). Now at year 3½.

    Dear Ex_Rock_n_Roller,

Thank you very much for a prompt response. I've been searching internet a minute ago and found the Xalkori treatment as well! I have also found two new (at least in Poland) methods of advanced radiation - Cyberknife and nanoknife. Tomorrow we have a meeting with next onclogogist who will consult the cyberknife treatment in my mother's case.

    all the best!
