Bone Marrow Biopsy

I was trying to wait it out before I asked but it's the weekend and I can't wait any longer!  I had my bone marrow biopsy August 27 and it is now going on Sept. 8th.  I talked to the nurse the 30th and she said the preliminary results were back and they looked fine but the rest is not back yet.  I thought it was 1-7 days?  Why is it taking so long? Also if the prelims were fine doews that mean the rest will be ok?

    Frankie:

I have trouble waiting for any kind of phone call.  But in the case of a medical test, I would be aggressive and just phone them.

I waited for days after a PT-Scan recently until I saw the oncologist.  Everything was fine, but it was no fun waiting.  I should have called.

Hi Nancy, it's absolutely dreadful to wait!  I thought it was taking way to long.  Maybe i'm a little anxious or could be a lot anxious! I noticed I put the 8th and I meant the 7th but it is still a long while.  I did call Thursday and they said the prelims were in and looked good so maybe I don't have anything to worry about. I went to see an ENT because my maxillary sinus lit up in the PET also and he gave me antibiotics to take to see if I had infection.  I will be having a CT for that this Wednesday and if it's not gone I will be having a biopsy.  I have been looking everywhere for the procedure of how they do that but can't find much on it.  So if you or anyone else reading this has had one done that would be great to hear about it.  I would let it go but I have been having headaches and sinus trouble so i'm afraid to not get it looked at.  Not looking forward to a sinus biopsy that's for sure.  Thanks for the reply Nancy, hope you are doing well.

Be careful if you look for info. on a  procedure on the internet.  If I'm looking for information, I go to highly-regarded hospital websites, etc.

Hope your CT-Scan is good on Wednesday.  Let us know.

Hi Rocquie, I had it done the 27 of August and decided to call on the 29th.  The nurse told me that the preliminary tests were in and that they looked great so I thought ok this is going to be good.  Well yesterday the 10th I called again and it was not back yet so I asked her if that was a bad sign and she said no and that they didn't expect any surprises.  I thought I read somewhere that if the prelims were good it doesn't always mean the other will be. So I guess my only option is to wait it out and they will call me when it comes in.  What do you think?  It's taking a little long right?  Thanks for caring, hope you are doing well!!!  Frankie

    Delays

    Frankie,

I don't know if it's good or bad that the final results are taking so long...I just think they should have gotten them done by now.  I had a PET scan a week ago and the doctor has the final results on two days ago.

    I say "keep pushing 'em".

Hi all!  Well it's been a good day!  Biopsy is negative! yay!!  I went to see the ENT and get a CT of the max sinus and planned on stopping by the onc.  Well the ENT looked at the CT and said, there is something there but it looks like a tooth problem.  He took my CT down the hall to my oncs office to discuss it with him and when he came back he said, by the way your BMB is negative.  What a relief!  Anyway he got me an appt with a dentist right then and low and behold I have an abscessed tooth causing infection low in the sinus cavity!  Oh my gosh, I was at the dentist getting teeth cleaned and xrays in June and 3 wks later the PET so the abscess had to be there in June.  So I get to have a root canal but that's ok, it's all good.  I am a little frustrated that I spent all that time, money and worrying for nothing.  The dentist did say that my dentist wouldn't have seen it unless he was looking for it, since I had no pain or any symptoms. So I know now that I will be on WW unless if or when I need treatment.  So thankful!  Thank you all for the help and kind words, you guys are great!  Frankie

    Whew!

What a relief, Frankie! Not good news about the abcess and root canal but I'm sure that felt like a minor glitch compared to the great news of a negative bone marrow biopsy.  Thanks for letting us know, keep in touch, and Contratulations.

    Good news

    Frankie,

Certainly a root canal beats a negative BMB.  Happy for you!  Lesson for you: Push them for results next time to reduce your stress!!!
