My sister-in-law UPDATE she has Passed Away

My husband's sister went into the hospital on Saturday, we just got the call she has less then 24 hours According to the nurses, hospice has been called to the hospital and all life saving machines have been taken out.  She is coherent and on oxygen, but asleep at the moment, my husband hopes to talk with her before she leaves this realm.  She is in Ohio we are in California.

She was stage IV breast cancer, she had 20 good years after diagnosis, but her time on this earth still is ending too soon.  She was fine last week after her chemo, my husband talked to every Sunday to see how she was doing on her chemo for the past two years when her reoccurrence started.  I'm not sure what to do for him, he's in a bit of a shock As am I at the quickness of it.

    Oh Winter, I'm so very sorry...  I would suggest to just sit and hold your husband tight.  I'm sure that he's a wreck right now, but he has you to support him through this sadness.  Cancer takes yet another good soul - when will this ever end.  :(

    There are things...

    ...that only time can heal. Even though it's hard, sometimes impossible to remember this and things just have to take their course. I wish your sister in-law a peaceful passage, you, your husband and everybody involved the strength to get through this difficult process.

    What to do

    It's like being run over by a truck. Shock, sadness, grievance, anger, and denial are all parts of a healing process for wounds that cut so deep.  It takes time to heal and the scars will always be there. Sometimes it's hard to know where to start with the support, but just understanding and holding hands through it makes the difference. Remind him of the good times and how wonderful she was, and that her spirit and accomplishments live on to strengthen both of you and others. I'm so glad he had such a good relationship with his sister. You'll both miss her and eventually focus on the happiness that she brought to your lives.  Dan

    I'm so sorry to hear this news. As much as we'd like to think that we are prepared for something like this, we never really are. Just hold each other tight and try to remember the good memories.

    Sorry to read this news about your sister in law.  Funny how it can all change so suddenly.  I'm happy for the 20 good years.  Stay strong for your hubby.  He must be feeling overwhelmed.  So sorry this is happening.

    My sympathies to your husband and you.  Wishing her the best possible peace during her final hours here.  Sounds like she had a long life after initial diagnosis.  Sounds like she was a very good survivor after 20 years.

    Very sorry to hear this but I honestly hope that when my time comes I go quickly and don't suffer for months. As tough as this is on her family it may be the best ending for her. Thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this difficult time.

    I am so sorry to hear about your SIL.  How tough it must be on your husband watching you go through your trials and having his sister going through hers and so far away. 

    I will pray for comfort for your SIL, your husband and of course that all goes well with you too.

    I am so sorry...for all of you.  I think the only thing you can do for him...is just be there for him...listen to him.  Try to help him focus on the years of good memories.  You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.
