New to this forum unfortunaely

I was a member of the uterine cancer forum four years ago when my mom was diagnosed with inoperable uterine cancer.  She lost her battle after a year.  I also lost my dad to colon cancer six years ago.  Just a few days ago my husband had an abdominal ultrsound and CT scan which shows probaable rectal cancer as the primary with mets to the liver.  I am in absolute shock.  He is 59 and in excellent health otherwise.  We go see the gastroenterologist on Tuesday, presumably for a sigmoidoscopy.  I am a nurse which doesn't help.  I am scared and depressed.  Any words of hope and success would be appreciated.  He is the love of my life and I don't want to lose him.

    Sorry you had to find yet another board to join.  I'm also sorry to hear of your husband's possible diagnosis.  Your husband can get through this and there are many on this board who have been where he's at now.  Take it one step at a time and see what the flex sig shows.  If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.  It's normal to be scared especially after all you've been through but we are here to help you and your husband and to give you encouragement.  Please keep us updated.

    I can relate to the shock
    I can relate to the shock you're going through. My husband was diagnosed two years ago with stage four. There is so much that can be done. There are a ton on success stories here. What are they saying about the liver? Are there numerous lesions? My husband is currently dealing with liver mets as are many here at CSN. Welcome to forum.

    Welcome to the Board.  

    Being scared and depressed are totally understandable to me and, no doubt, others will agree.  Great advice to take one step at a time.  Our imaginations can be our worst enemies.  

    There are many treatments and options that may exist to help your husband.  Every year it seems that there are new and optimistic treatment options increasing length and quality of life.

    On this board there is a great deal of experience and knowledge.

    Post often and please keep us informed.

    Hi, sorry to hear you have to join our club.  I'll keep my suggestion very brief:  please look into HAI (hepatic arterial infusion) as a possibility for treatment.  Quite a few stage IVers  with cancer in liver have had great results, myself included.  It delivers concentrated chemo directly to the liver tumors...and if it can be done as first line treatment, the results are even better.  Only thing is that few hospitals do it - Sloan Kettering in NYC are the experts.  Best of luck in your husband's treatment, and feel free to PM me for any q's on HAI, or any other stage IV q's.
