Urine Leakage after partial nephrectomy?

in Kidney Cancer #1

Hello..I have been lurking on this board for about 4 months, when my husband was first diagnosed with a Tumor on his kidney,which resulted in a partial nephrectomy in late Feb. It was stage 1 cancer. He is back at work and doing great. He had his  first CT scan today..all clear..expect the Dr said he has a small pool of urine that is leaking from the kidney. The Dr said he was not too concerned and will look at it again in 3 months to decide if a stint is needed or it goes away on it's own.

 

Has this happened to anyone else? If so what was the outcome?

 

BTW~This board has provided so much education and encouragement for me and my family. I never needed to post because most of my questions and concerns were addressed in a pos, but I have not seen this topic yet.

    My opinion

    To me it does not sound related to the RCC. If it was me I would get  a second opinion from another urologist.

    Drs. advice

    I like your drs. advice. A good rule of thumb is that if any invasive procedure can be avoided, follow that path. Our bodies tend to heal. After the 3 months, the plan could change. Keep an eye on his temperature to asure no infection.

    i was told by my consultant that if i had a partial that this could happen and it happens a lot.  i ended up with a radical so it didnt really apply to me in the end but it does happen.

    Partial Complication

    I met a man at the Kidney Cancer Support Group at Cedars Sinai that had had this situation. He had an ongoing situation for months. He got an opinion to do surgery to try and repair it, and then another that wanted to just do a radical nephrectomy. In the end he saw a specialist that recommended a procedure that was non-invasive that involved blocking the blood supply to the kidney, which killed off the kidney. He was happy with the final solution. He wasn't happy with the original surgeon, who seemed to let the problem go on for many months too long (according to him). He didn't seem to be aware that there was a possible complication with partials that this could happen, so he was very unhappy with his first doctor.

    Sorry to hear about this complication. I hope it can get resolved soon. Getting second and third opinions worked out well for this guy I met.

    Thanks for the advice on watching his temperature...will do!

    My Hubby feels fantastic and is not as concerned as I am. I am hoping this just goes away on it's own or a simple stint if needed. Thanks for all the replies. I am hoping he will not need to go in for another sugery...to fix this complication.

    I will let you know what happens.
