so yoga was recommended by ian gawler course.
another magic bullet.

my balance and flexibility is shot. after an hour private lesson it had improved.
my teacher is an angel giving me a much appreciated discount, so i am committed to making this yoga stuff work.

yoga breathing is awesome while meditating.

yoga alignment is essential for walking and posture, my feet have got to carry me many many miles. they were out , i have moved off the treadmill to the crosstrainer so i can line up my feet and have good walking technique.
no this is why onc cannot recommend walking, because they don't know how to do it with chemo feet. i do, at last.

yoga stretching is a bit challenging with my hernia but i am focusing on keeping it inside.
i wonder if i can train my body to keep my hernia inside, i can kind of isolate the muscles.

yoga squatting is great for pooing, use the potty, not the over sized large toilet.
i get much much better bm's with my kids potty. now i squat using the yoga technique.
i had a few bm's i was proud of.

yoga posuture for better breathing, correct deep breathing. better oygenation of the entire body.

another something to be grateful to ian gawler foundation for , i am putting into practise what they taught me.

yoga focus, while doing the posutures is key. i close my eyes, and got into trouble eavch time. body awareness, of all the muscles is my focus, gently but firmly come back to the focus, to the body and have the correct technique.

yoga posture for meditation, good upright posture so that the energy flows and blockages are removed.

this healing is a full time job. or maybe living well is a full time job and being healthy in mind, body and spirit is what required to be fully alive.

these ideas are for my own reflection primarily and I just share them here so you can see where my crc journey is taking me. i am not preaching this stuff to anyone, except myself.

hugs,
pete

i have been quite here for a while, and after my gawler retreat, i had heaps of areas, to ramp up the war on crc.

its a little depressing to have no feedback as yoga was recommended to me on my ian gawler course, i did it and wow! even when i squat for the loo, its done as a full on yoga position, now thats still up to 10 tens some days.

so many benefits and i am just getting started.

i am just sharing what i am trying. i no to some here who don't try many of the alternative things i am a bit over the top. we are all different and cope with our crc challenges our own way.

helping with bm's, helping with balance and now the feeling in my feet, well its just some much better.

i walk bare foot from the car to the yoga studio, it hurts on the gravel.
guess what it never used to, my numb feet were indestructible or at least very very numb.

even sitting here typing i role my feet from side to side, front and back feeling all the toes , the heel and the sole of my feet. i sit with a straight back and good posture.

even the way foods can fight angiogenesis is amazing.

    keep it up
Pete, really appreciate everything. Please keep helping us help ourselves. From this thread on yoga, and then Tommycat replying, I have learned from her experience that yoga could help with scar tissue. I have a rather "pointy" scar tissue that could use some flattening out. Will give it a go. Also, got some broccoli sprouts. I know the possibility of microorganisms, but there's some things I'll risk
PLEASE keep doing what you are doing

    loving yoga
I totally agree with yoga! I started shortly after my diagnosis and it has really helped . . . . it calms me, centres me and allows me to focus. Also - when I am sitting waiting for an appointment or lieing in a bed somewhere waiting for another test, I find that I can do my yoga breathing and it calms me compeltely. It also helps at night when i can't sleep, I think through each body part, relaxing as I go and then finally focus on the breathing and feeling my heart beat - usually lulls me to sleep. I used the technique just yesterday in the dentist's chair and actually dozed off! I am more flexible, limber and confident than I have ever been and it is all because of yoga.
I have often thought that if everybody practiced yoga a few times a week the world might be a kinder, gentler place!

every visit to the loo is a yoga pose now.
one of the mums at school pickup was showing me yoga breathing.
oxygenating our lungs, does an oxygen rich environment help or kill crc lung mets.

i think you are definitely right, the world needs yoga. i need yoga. i have put it in the title of the exercise post, so everytime any of us posts, it pops up to the top. so post away jo , make it pop to the top. i have also put a link into this post from the exercise post so hopefully all yoga based comments can be mentioned here.

step by step or pose by pose or post by post we make a difference. i just love the idea of a kinder world. i am off to my awesome yoga teacher tess tomorrow.

her advice was to do my gym workout before yoga so i get the relaxation benefits flowing through the entire day.

    hugs,
    pete

ps if anyone finds any yoga friendly clinical studies from pubmed or whereever, share them here.

    Yoga
I find lots of help with yoga too. Since I am on chemo I have now switched to a "Gentle/Adaptive Yoga" class that is not quite as taxing as regular yoga class but still offers much in the way of stretching, flexibility and the mental benefits of breathing and meditation. Because my feet are numb after Oxaliplatin in this class I can use a chair to reach my balance position if I need to. It is open to anyone with any kind of health challenge to overcome and truly reflects the principle that anyone can do yoga.

There is also a DVD and cable show that features this type of gentle yoga breathing and stretching exercise -- it is a great alternative if you are too sick to go to class or there is no gentle yoga being offered in your area. It is "Yoga for the Rest of Us" and available at bookstores, Amazon etc.

I now go to regular yoga class for one day in my "off week" of chemo and go to gentle yoga class two or three times during my two week treatment cycle.

Since you said you had quite since surgery and chemo, I thought you might want to know this alternative type yoga is available for you to ease back into if you are still experiencing side effects.
