I wanted to share this article with all of you. It is from Fox News on how green tea may help thwart lung cancer. I will be getting some for my mom-we will do whatever we can! ]

Update on my mom, Marge
My mom continues to suffer from lung cancer and has slowed down rapidly. She was diagnosed almost a year ago in November. It started in her right lung and has now infected lymph nodes and adrenal glands. She is currently on chemo treatments (Alimta, Avastin and Carboplatin) and a lot of steroids for pneumonitis (sp). The chemo is also accelerating her cataracts and she is having trouble seeing but she is too weak to have surgery. She is turning 70 this week. So heart breaking to watch her go from a healthy, active and positive woman to sommeone who can hardly get off the couch. She still remains positive, but I can see her hope diminishing.

    Your mom
Please don't be too discouraged by how your mom is feeling right now. I'm not sure how long she has been receiving the chemo but I know when I went through treatment 2 years ago, with cisplatin, I felt like I wasn't going to make it. Then one day everything began to slowly turn around and I got a little stronger each day.

I have heard other good reports about green tea so I will definitely read this article. Thank you for sharing!

Tell your mom to keep fighting and never give up.

My best to you and your mom,
    Glenna

    green tea
Green tea may help (I have not read the article but have heard this many times before) and as far as I know it certainly can't hurt. However, when my neighbor learned I had lung cancer, she dropped by to inform me that she did too and kindly gave me a gallon of green tea along with notice that she was foregoing traditional western treatment and counting on the green tea and perhaps other herbal remedies to save her. Regrettably, she was dead within six months while I, who had a lobectomy, chemotherapy, and various other treatments while the green tea sat unopened in the fridge, am still here to warn folks against dropping traditional treatment altogether in favor of green tea and other miracle cures.

    Take care, my friend,

    Joe

Read and reread the Fox news article before stocking up on green tea. Compounds in the green tea may have an effect on the rate of growth of lung cancer cells, though the test was conducted on cells in petrie dishes, not humans, and at the end of the article, it is stated that, "However, other studies have found that drinking green tea or black tea increases the risk of lung cancer, UMM (University of Maryland Medical Center) says." Also, "Many laboratory studies suggest green tea may protect against cancer or slow cancer growth, but studies in humans have had mixed results, according to the National Institutes of Health." Too much contradiction, too few hard facts!

Best wishes to your Mom. Hoping she will regain her strength once her chemo treatments are finished. Stay strong for her, and do take care of yourself along the way. I lost my mother to lung cancer in Nov. 2009 and was undergoing treatment for it myself a year later. If green tea were a cure, I'd drink it by the bucket!
