Thanks so much for all you juicers out there. This morning my husband and I enjoyed our first morning of juice. Just knowing that you are doing one more thing to fight this disease is truly empowering. Keep posting your stories of being disease free and hopefully a year from now we will be able to do the same. We will take it one step at a time and the next step will be looking into a few suppliments. Please reply with your own juicing combinations as I basically put "everything but the kitchen sink" (carrotts, cabbagge, kale, spinach, beets and an apple lol) in the juicer this morning. If you had to pick three foods, because of their cancer fighting ability, what would they be? Thanks again so much!!!! Stephanie

So glad you posted this. Everyone is trying to get me to juice and I just cannot get into it. I don't like the taste or the thought of drinking my vegetables. Maybe just too much info at a time when my head is not that clear.

If you have good tasting combinations please help post them.

I was curious, why is juicing better than just eating the vegetables?

    To better health!
The juice nutrients go straight to the blood stream, meaning your stomach doesn't need to work to digest them. Do eat them, but adding a glass of fresh juice is the bomb! Hey, I like that, the bomb, watch out cancer cells!

Tumeric, Milk thistle, and vitamin D3 are my must haves!

Anything green, is the way to go! All berries are anti cancer. Beets are great for the liver, keep it clean.

Red meat I have read is one of the biggest no, no's. Maybe in moderation, but not heavy. your stomach has to work so hard to digest it...days! Your body needs to focus on other areas of your body and not breaking down food.

I love sauteed spinach and eggs for breakfast. I stay away from bread, potatoes, and pasta. If I do have it, it's wheat. I stick to a corn tortilla, no flour.

    Just saying.......

Sheeew so glad you answered the veggie question cause I did not know why juice was better, now I do and makes perfect sense. I know tumeric is good, is it cancer fighting? I believe the milk thistle is good for the liver right? There is just so much to learn and my husband is NOT the one that likes to research so I'm the one that not only does the research but then have the enormous task in talking him into using the info I collect lol!

    It wasn't bad at all!
I was very hesitant because my husband is a little picky. He drank the concaction (sp) above and all he had to say was that it had a slight after taste. I'm very anxious to see if others have suggestions on veggie combinations. We are going to stick with this. The juice may not always be the same but the way I see it is that veggies and fruit in any form can't be bad for you!

    Hi Stephanie
I'm not sure of your husband's current situation as my suggestions usually vary considering where they are: Early in treatment - pre-surgery, post-surgery, in chemo now; any mets and where are they, after treatment and NED - Maintenance mode.

If you search juicing recipes you should get several of the other threads from years of fellow juicers!

There is a great paperback book called Juicing for Life (written by Calbom and Keane)that has oodles of recipes for all sorts of maladies like constipation, diarrhea, cancer, colds, acne, all sorts of things. It's only $10 @ Amazon.

I just got my weeks worth of super fresh produce for $28
    practical side of juicing downunder.

I thought some might find this interesting.

that 10kg carrots, 13 small beets with head, celery, broccoli, lemons, cabbage.
i am so lucky to live where we have a great fruit market. thats about $4 a day for a 800ml
of super fresh enzyme loaded juice.

its the first time i ever got the whole weeks worth and i was interested in the cost per juice per day. the same in the shop would be $12 for the same volume, but not as good juicing machine.

    hugs,
    pete

    Thanks!!
Lisa he is post surgical chemo 5-FU as he had to go off the Oxaliplatin after the third round. He was stage three with one lymph node involved. He had pre chemo/radiation. What should I look for in his bloodwork to see if the juicing is working? Thanks so much for any and all suggestions. Stephanie

    Thanks!!
A question I have...The tumeric, I'm familiar with this in the spice department but do you use it fresh? What does this spice go well with? How much do you recommend?

Lisa my husband was stage 3 rectal with 1 lymph node involved. He has had pre chemo/radiation, surgery and is now doing clean up chemo. He is now only on 5-FU as they took him off of the Oxaliplatin after 4 rounds due to an allergic reaction. He has had some issues as far as WBC count and is taking weekly injections for this. What should we see improve on the bloodwork after juicing for a while?

    All RBC and WBC counts
You should notice a significant increase (to the good) in the various red blood cell counts (red blood cellc count/RBC, hematocrit/HCT, Hemoglobin/HGB and for white blood cell count/WBC, platelet count, and absolute neuts/neutrals are the most important in my mind. RDW in the red blood cell count list will reflect anemia if there is any.

Get printouts of your hubbys blood results at every appt. Check to see if any are high or low and ask questions. If you get yours emailed later like I do, look up the ones you are curious about on google. I personally believe very strongly in educating ourselves about our bods.

Bilirubin, AST, and ALT are more liver counts and to be honest in all my years here I have never seen that one of them being elevated had anything to do with liver mets. The elevations have always been related to meds of some sort but sure do cause lots of anxiety.

the raised enzymes indicate liver damage
its better to be pulled off chemo then destroy your liver.

you can protect it with milk thistle, some enlightened onc prescribe this during chemo.
