Colonoscopy discussion on the Breast Cancer forum

As I wait in the women's wellness center for my breast biopsy I saw this on the breast cancer board:

http://csn.cancer.org/node/213133

"I've only had 1 colonoscopy (Feb 4, 2011) and there is no way that I will EVER do another one (well short of a life and death situation) again! (The only reason it was done was that my PA wanted to be sure that there was nothing 'going on' there as the colon is one of the places that IBC likes to go)...."

I posted a response, but found the whole conversation disturbing enough that I am bringing it to the attention of this board.

    It's always about T's & A's
Well, I'll never get a pap spear!
Not everyone has a pap to smear but we all have colons. Well, not totally true, some have had their removed since they didn't catch the colon cancer soon enough.
    Is ignorance really bliss?

    Ignorance
Ignorance is bliss, until it comes around and bites you. You know, I had a woman ask me after she saw me wearing a Survivor shirt, "Breast cancer?" I told her that I had colon cancer, and she very seriously said, "Are you kidding? I didn't know women could get colon cancer!" Well, duh, if you have a colon, you're eligible!

    *hugs*

    Hi Gail,

    I could not agree more.

And we all know exactly where it bits us, don't we.
In the bum of course, but yes ignorance is bliss I think.

Maybe they could get a cheaper price getting breasts and bums tested at once in some big test center. getting tested for bowel cancer has a real social stigma attached, so few do it. I know I did not, I wish I did, I wish more did, like most of us.

    cheers,

    Pete
