In junei started to have problems, went to er admitted had second surgeryhadsecond surgery and a chemo wafer was placed on my brain. I also had10 weeks of wholebrain radiation. Bald and no sign of regrowth of hair. My most recent mri showed no changes from the month before which is good. I have to have anoanother in 3 months. I havent seen the gyn/oncsince IHave been in the hospital. Going to him beginning of december..now that scares me. All in all ifeel pretty good and hope to get back towork end of november. Twobrain surgeries in the exact same spots really took its toll on me. I have lost 60 pounds since my hyterectomy last nov30 33 in the last few months. En dealing with some nausea issues makingit hard to eat. That seems to be subsiding. Myson and i made it on our trip to vegas he planned when we foundout i had cancer. Hoping to stay well enough to plan another.
Hoping you are all doing well!
Take care

Glad you checked in. Your story is amazing. I can't believe you want to even think of working. Have you considered applying for SS Disability? I got it quickly when I had first recurrence of UPSC. And others have too. Just a thought.

You deserve the best news in December. Until then please try not to worry - it's just wasted energy and increases stress which we don't need.

Go ahead and plan that trip with your son. Precious memories have no price tag.

Hugs to you. Mary Ann

Mary Ann,

Im a newbie, and I have grade 3 stage 3c UPSC. Ive had 6 chemos and starting radiation soon. Do most people wait until a recurrence to apply for ss disability? I am only 45 years old.

I applied for SS Disability in -April 09 after I was diagnosed in Jan 09. Due to my diagnosis of UPSC stage 3 -C,
I was approved. They actually went back to 10/08 where I had my abnormal PAP that was highly suggestive of
Adenocarcinoma. You have to be disabled for 6 months, so I got my first check in May 09.

Two years after you are on disability you qualify for Medicare. Some people are given a determined amount of
Disability but due to my age (60) at the time and diagnosis I was not given a time limit of disability. Therefore I
Started on Medicare when I was 62.

I went to a lawyer who specializes in SS disability who only charges if you are approved. Others have just gone
To the Social Security office, and they have gotten approval. Good luck. In peace and caring.

Ro, do you think I would be approved since I "only work at home" i.e. housewife. I was 57 at diagnosis and am about to turn 61 in Dec Thanks, debrajo

Sorry I do not know the answer to your question. You could call your Social Security office and ask. If you would qualify for SS at 65, I would guess you could get disability, but like I said I do not know. If you get an answer please post it. Others may want to know the answer. Good luck.

I'd apply now rather than wait till recurrence. In my application, I attached an research article about UPSC and poor prognosis. I don't know what they will consider. It's worth a shot though.

Good luck. Mary Ann

Thank goodness you are back!! I've been looking for you since I knew you were going back for second ct. Sounds like you got it whipped this time! So glad you made it to Vegas and I know you will make it back again! I agree with Mary Ann...unless you really want to go back to work, take you ss disability and relax. Just think of all the new plans and trips your could take! Best, Debrajo

I have been wondering how you have been doing. I am glad you have had positive results from the radiation. I have not heard of a chemo wafer that was placed on the brain. Did it just dissolve? You have been through so much. Glad you got to go to LV with your son. Hope you have many
More trips with him.

Enjoy each day. In peace and caring.

Glad to see a post from you! I remember reading about your car accident and falling in your garage. I've thought of you often. Try not to be a stranger!
