    Glass slippers!
    Every year when I was little, I got a pair of sparkly plastic high heels with an elastic strap that were my "Cinderella" slippers. I just LOVED those and would wear them constantly until they broke.

    I DO remember Chatty Cathy also, but never got one of those myself.

    Wow, I also loved those plastic heels. Didn't they make you feel so grown up!

    A Barbie Doll
    a Ken doll and a Barbie kitchen set. My sister and I played for hours. We even had fake food and you could put water in the play kitchen sink.

    My other favorite was a 3-foot tall beauty shop doll with long hair, beautician's chair and all the accessories to do her hair with.

    My girlfriend had a Chatty Cathy with blond hair--I coveted that doll!

    A Thumbelina baby doll and
    A Thumbelina baby doll and who knew that was a sign that I would be caring for babies the rest of my life. I started working in a hospital nursery in 1978 as a student nurse tech. I am now a neonatal NP. I love my premies and, of course, term babies too! That Thumbelina was prophetic...lol.

    I remember Chatty Cathy! She was Wonderful!! My best friend got one and I was so jealous. "Mrs. Claus" (Mom) would make the most wonderful clothes for Barbie. My favorite ever was a white ball gown with tiny roses at the waist.

    I got a Chatty Cathy too, never played with it cause I didn't like dolls or girlie things. I ended up giving the doll to my niece who never played with it either. My favorite and well rememebered Christmas toy though was a Roy Rogers pop rifel.

    My sister and I got revlon dolls. It was a bigger version of Barbie and one of the first grown up dolls. It had high heels, nylon stockings, a faux fur stole, earrings, necklace, and a beautiful dress. My mom made a bunch of clothes to go with them. I got the brunette with the brown eyes and my sister got the blue eyed blonde because that's what we were. I remembered it with such fondness that I found a pair of them years ago and bought myself the brunette and my sister a blonde. Funniest thing is that the doll had been given a hair cut and that is just what I did to mine. Wouldn't it be funny if this was actually my original doll? LOL Like I was the only kid with scissors. The other toy from an even younger age was a red pedal fire truck that my brother and I got. There is a picture of him, me and my big teddy bear all crammed inside. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

    my favorite childhood toy was probably my cricket doll. she was a large doll, that you could put cassette tapes in. her mouth and eyes moved, and she sang and played learning games.

    No carriesoup your not showing too awfully your age. Those of us who either received or remember Chatty Cathy dolls are showing our age. My sisters received the Susie Walker and I received the smaller one Chatty Cathy. Girls, what year was that, 195?

    I have been pondering this question since I first saw it...and I can't think of anything in particular which has stayed in my memories as a favorite. I grew up in Germany and we didn't have access to the latest toys and things which we just knew everyone in the States had! I of course loved Christmas, and have nothing but good, warm family memories!

    A gift I still remember to this very day is not one I received, but one I had a part in making. We used to get milk and eggs delivered in wooden crates, left at our front doors..our Girl Scout troop collected these wooden crates and we made doll houses out of them and delivered them to a local orphanage. That, and singing Christmas carols at an old folks home loom large in my memory. And for those memories I am very glad!

    Chatty Cathy for me too, that is the first thing that came to me when i saw the headline! and of course anything barbie, especially skipper. I loved dolls and doll clothes.

    I had a Chatty Cathy too! My Mom was playing with me one day and pulled her string and it broke. I think it upset my Mom more than me though. About 8 or so yrs ago on Christmas my Mom gave me a Chatty Cathy doll again, she found it in a catalogue. I did not let her play with this one!! I think my favorite toy though was a little 3 wheeled ride on toy I loved it. It was not a tricycle but boy was it fun. God Bless

    I had a Thumbellina too

    Let's Play Hospital
    ...believe it or not.

    It was a 4 story cardboard building open on all four sides with an elevator in the center that I could wind up or lower. It was equipped with styrofoam furnishings and people. There was a nursery, surgery, Xray, nurses station, patient rooms, waiting room, kitchen...all the modern features of a mid 1960s hospital.

    What I remember most about that Christmas was dutifully setting up my hospital and then having my brother knock it over so he could interview the survivors with his new tape recorder.

    I think that was before the Christmas when Dr. Christiaan Barnard performed the first heart transplant and aquarium tubing was used in conjunction with red food coloring and tubes were inserted into one of my doll's chest again by one of my brothers.

    Oh Chen I too have wonderful memories of singing at the convalesent homes and the hospitals to bring some holiday happiness to those who could not get out to participate like most other do. Those are sweet memories.

    My favorite Christmas gift was a small organ I spotted in the drug store in the summer and I wanted it so very badly. We had just moved to California and I was still missing my friends in South Carolina. I eyed that organ everytime we entered that store, to my surprise it was under our Christmas tree. I still have it and was just telling My Guy that I plan to pull it out for Ava to play on in the near future.

    I got so many toys and gifts
    I got so many toys and gifts at Christmas that it would be hard to just pick out one.

    Like some of the others, when my parents would take us Christmas shopping, we would pick out one gift to take to the local nursing home for someone and we would pick out one gift for a child that was distributed from our church to needy families.

    When I was really young, it really didn't mean much to me, but, as I got older, I realized what a wonderful gesture it was for my parents to do that.

    Cant remember anything in particular. Barbie's and Chatty Cathy's came after my doll stage. I do have pleasant memories. We would shop for a tree, my dad would always cut the stem to fit the stand and after it sat for a day we would decorate and roast chestnuts. It was such a warm and fuzzy time. On Christmas Eve we would attend church and I would usually be one of those angels marching around the church with candle in hand singing carols.

    Thanks ladies, it was fun to read all of your answers! I also loved my Barbie doll and had the black patent leather suitcase filled with clothes. I actually had the original. Man I am old! LOL
    Seriously, not to copy anyone, but, I had forgotten about Thumbelina and I loved her too. I loved the way she moved and felt like she was a real baby.
    Funny how our younger days seemed to mirror our adult ones. I always wanted to grow up, get married and have babies and that's just what I did, at a very young age.
    This was fun.
