They have been pulling this PA switch for some time now. You are paying to see a doctor and his experience not a helper. One doctor we had I found you had to request the doctor or they gave you the assistant. Not right. Sorry you missed a milestone.0 -

GGRRRRRRRRRR is mild compared to what I would have said. Don't you just hate when doctors try to pull this stuff on you, and most of the time people let them get away with it. Oh well, one week more, and you can talk to "your" doctor. Hope all goes well. Glad you vented, as there are others in this board that would have just seen the PA and been done with it. Good for you for standing your ground and insisting on seeing yur onc. Let us know how things go. Sorry you missed the "kindergarten" induction. Hugs.

Sorry for yet another snafu at your onc's office again today, RE. Sheesh.
Since my medical team is affiliated with a local university's medical program - there have been times when an intern has ACCOMPANIED one of my doctors during an appointment. Which, by the way, only happens with patient's approval.
I don't blame you - at all, whatsoever - for speaking up and standing your ground. In fact - if I were you, I'd inform the REAL doctor next week that what happened today is NOT acceptable for you into the future.

I bet that was frustrating to say the least! I know that our oncs see lots of people,but we are all still important as individuals and deserve good care without somebody pulling something like that on us. Good for you for standing your ground-we definately need to be our own advocates sometimes!And I know what you're talking about about history.I've only had my onc since Fall of 2007,and I would hate to have to see or be transferred to somebody else. It would be hard enough with a family doctor,but a whole nother story with your onc.

RE, good for you that you did NOT accept an unknown assistant instead of your oncologist. How frustrating that again your concerns have to wait. Of course you are frustrated, especially to miss your grandson's first day of kindergarden. (Just don't pull your hair out.)
Thank you for once again demonstrating how to be a survivor. Insisting on seeing your oncologist is an excellent example for us all, as another one of our sisters pointed out.0 -

I though want to know how Ian's first day of school went. Come on all of his aunts here at ACS are waiting to hear. Oh and in my opion starting school in July is just wrong!!!

I am sad to say it went poorly, he was terrified. He has never gone to preschool so this was his first expierience. He is the youngest in the class to boot, his 5th birthday is Aug.6. He is going to try again tomorrow, his mommy is going to see if she can get him to relax. Keep the little guy in your prayers please.

Oh RE... I'm sorry that things were rough for both you and Ian... first good for you standing your ground on wanting to SEE YOUR DOCTOR and not his "assistant" man what's up with that... second... awe... poor Ian... school can be soooooo scarey for such a little guy... I remember my sons first day of school 17 years ago... he was extremely anxious... the teacher was great and let me hang out in the corner with him until he warmed up to the rest of the class... I will cross my fingers that things go better tomorrow...0 -

After all that wait and then this. I'm not sure I could have accepted a PA but then again I would ONLY see the PA in my DR's office!! I have done this for 15 years. To the point of rescheduling. He was a paramedic with my husband at one time and we are friends. They are the most up to date on procedures and current affairs. They are the ones the Doc's send to the additional schooling (so the doc's don't have to bother). They are the ones that learn about the new meds out there, etc. Here is a secret...the only reason most of them do not get their license as Doc's is because the doc's are offering them salaries that are hard to turn down and they can still pratice under the Doc's licsense without all the legal hassel etc. I see my Doc about once a year just so he is aware I am still his patient, but that is it. And my PA has pushed harder for certain procedures or pulled out all the stops to speed things up because he must prove himself as well to keep his job. So I have actually received better care!! I'm all for PA's as long as the Doc is right there to confer with or validate what the PA is doing. But this may be an exception rather than the norm. Then again...I was never normal!!

I agree that you should see the doctor if that is where your comfort is. This is a tough journey and we need to feel a sense of continuity. I see the oncologist doctor for the breast cancer. For my uterine cancer check ups I see a nurse practitioner. I have since the beginning of my follow ups so I would be upset if I saw the doctor instead. My NP knows me, and she has been more than a NP, she is my friend. She never hurries the appointment and I can really talk with her. She gives me advise in other areas and orders any tests that she deems necessary. It all boils down to what makes US comfortable. I haven't seen the doctor regarding my uterine cancer since he did a look see under sedation for a potential return in 2001. He is a great doctor and I suppose if I had done my followups with him only I wouldn't want to see anyone else.
The bottom line is no one should feel that they are being passed off to someone else.
And by the way, Pammy, you seem to be morphing through the evolutionary chain here. If you are really lucky eventually you will become a real little girl. LOL The little chimp is very cute, but not as cute as you. When I was pregnant my hubby used to pick up our littly dog and say, The baby is so cute, but it's so hairy. Guess that is you. Pammy is so cute but she's so hairy.
